My deer season is over and more lessons learned. I'm bummed I couldn't put one in the score book. More annoyed at my wife asking how much time and money I've "waisted" on these hunts. A lot less than time and money wasted at work and on The Lion King Musical and Jurassic work Exhibit.
Happy hunting to everyone with seasons still left to go. I look forward to seeing your victories. Shoot Straight!
as for me, time to take up knitting until Spring.

If you take up knitting, make a beanie cap or something useful for in the woods lol

    Good luck next season!

Remember the season never ends. Now is the time to start scouting for the next season. Even get your family involved in the outings. Every season is a learning experience and isn't just successful with a kill but if you were able to apply past experiences that is a success. Good luck on future hunts and was great being your teammate.

Thank you! And I agree that every season is a learning experience. I will be out quite frequently. The NWTF just got a huge grant from the USDA forest service. I will be spending a ton of time out in the forest coordinating events to look for and work on guzzlers and drinkers. I remain encouraged that I will have success eventually. I've talked with other late onset hunters that hadn't even seen a doe their first year. I was out in the open still hunting because of the wind when the pair walked by me within 20 yards. I was much more calm this time than I was when the turkey came out 70 yards away. I learn something each time I'm out. This time it was STAY STILL and don't draw the bow unless the deer aren't looking to you. And make sure you don't have any plastic or metal pieces that are going rattle and make a weird noise.
I've raised teenager. Hunting is the second most difficult thing I've taken on.

    Happy thanksgiving!
I’ve been caught up in work and work at home so I have not had any spare time to play. Trying to take a break these next 4 days. I may get out for some peace and quite this weekend. If not I will definitely be out in December for a doe. I have until Jan(1st wee) to still hunt.

Happy Thanksgiving everyone! Taking my son to the farm for the second weekend of gun season. He passed his hunter’s safety and this will be his first year with his own tags.

Even though it is rifle season here in Wisconsin I went out with my bow this afternoon. Saw four does and missed one at around 35 yards. Cleanly shot over her back. I then had a little one come back at 10 yards but didn't want to shoot a little one.

I hope you all enjoyed Thanksgiving! (I spent the afternoon in a tree hoping a shooter would show up on my go-to farm - not, oh well... he was there yesterday).

    Status update from me.

2nd shotgun season closed 1/2 hour after sunset here, so bow is back open the rest of the way.

I have two private options on the table, one is a high possibility option the second I put 50/50. Second I can only hunt, I believe anyway, when he hunts as well, the first he'll show me some stand locations evening before 1st hunt and I can go whenever if he isn't planning to hunt that day.

May be good for 100 points neither has management rules or anything.

Not sure how much time, if any, I'll try on public. Think the rut was the only real possibility onbthat front this year. Have to put boots to the ground starting late winter and do my due diligence from then on out.

Uncles land had spoiled me for 15 years.

Sorry I been MIA, gun season kicked in and I stoped hunting in NY.

On a good note I am on a Farm in Illinois, half of it in brown and the other half is in Adams …hopefully I can add another deer to the Board .
Been a long couple days of travel but now that the Illinois gun season is over I can hit the woods.

Well, update from me. Gun season was a bust for my son. He put the hours in during rifle and muzzleloader. I shot a doe opening weekend with the rifle. Have plenty of meat in the freezer bust still have more tags. Just can’t put more points on the scorecard. Will hunt until 1/31.

Update - I got my fourth doe last week (State bag limit is 15 does; Navy Base limit is separate from the State at 6 does) - I have a few friends that do not hunt and look forward to the donated deer meat. The 2-week shotgun season ends Saturday, so I've been hunting less and catching up on chores lately. I'm seeing just a few average bucks on cameras; the more mature deer usually get active towards the end of this month and into January. The State season is over at the end of January, the Base season stretches into March.
