You can ask me to hold your beer, and you will get it back since I don't care for the taste of beer. Asking me to hold the rum would be a mistake.

Well guys, I finally released an arrow this morning. I'm down visiting family in Florida for Thanksgiving and our farm is loaded with does. It felt like a good shot, she was relaxed and quartering away. I gave it about an hour and checked the arrow.
Good blood on the shaft with a few small bubbles, nothing indicating guts. I decided to pick up the track and had good blood for about 75 yards before it began to peter out. I kept following the another 20 yards or so without blood and almost stepped on the deer. Unfortunately she bolted up from her bed.
I backed out and the more I think about it I'm thinking it might be a liver shot and maybe a lung, not sure. Anyways I'm going to go back this afternoon and see if I can get back on the track. I'm hoping that she bedded down again not far from where I jumped her.

Regular season archery has come to a close today for me and doesn’t come back in for about 3 weeks or so. Looks like I’ll be out in the late season trying to get some more points on the board. 1st buck I see I will be shooting regardless of the size for points.

If I were actually seeing bucks in daylight I’d say come hunt here during the down time but I haven’t laid eyes on a deer from the stand since I got home.

Of course, I could always take the travel trailer back to Mark Twain National Forest after gun season ends.

It’s one thing to kill a deer with a bow in the National Forest. It’s something entirely different to do it after the woods have been overrun by gun hunters.

    It is possible though.

Well the dagger buck that I was hunting met his maker last night. After I tagged out I was really hoping he’d hide until next year but he came out in front of my BIL. I wouldn’t expect anyone in Michigan to pass him but it would have been nice lol. He made roughly a 40” just from 2 to 3 years old and I would have expected him to be close to 170 next year. It taped out at 146 7/8. Image1668865831.165134.jpg

On day 3 of basically all day sits, I cannot get anything in range. I’ve been up trees, down trees, walk/scout, rattle, grunt…it’s just not coming together. Trying the ground game and almost had it, until two dumb little bucks ran off a 6 pack of does. I’m still trying, but I’m running out of steam.

Well guys unfortunately I could not locate her last night.
My uncle and I started from the last bed that I bumped her from. It had been about 7 hours since the initial shot that morning. we were able to advance the trail some, but eventually we lost blood. We continued to search following the general direction of the track line, but the area was not easy to navigate. Head high and thick grasses and briars. We grided out the area we thought she may have been in but did not come up with anything.

Did what you could do Mudlake. Keep grinding. Great buck old carp. I'm on the ground now with the rifle. Just had a 4pt go by. 1st deer I've seen today. Been here for 4 hrs. I think it's made it up to 25degrees.

Mudlake sounds like you did everything possible to find her. Happens to us all sooner or later.
