Congrats again Tony on your buck! First of many from your new property! Do you plan to do food plots? Or do you already have them? Sent from my SM-S901U using Tapatalk
I absolutely HAVE to do a food plot/s as there are not any mast trees sans a few beech but there is a bug destroying all of them I can’t wait to get that all done up… @Lester is going to hook me up with a new blend they developed for areas that aren’t open sun Sent from my iPhone using Bowhunting.com Forums
Nice! The deer are going to love it, in return so will you. The first year is always hard. Deer sometimes take a little time to get use to a new food. But I bet it won't be long and you will be pulling in deer from miles. Sent from my SM-S901U using Tapatalk
My neighbor also approached me about buying some of his land as they will be selling their home and because of our relationship that has developed over the year , he wants to offer it to us and sell the house with less land… I am super interested in that Sent from my iPhone using Bowhunting.com Forums
Oh man that sounds like it could be a great opportunity. Does his piece of land have potential? Also some of the best properties I've hunted always had a bedding area. Even if just a few acres. It's easy to make. Just drop trees and open up the woods, then the under growth takes off and makes natural bedding. Food, water, and shelter. Then you have a gold mine! We actually had the property logged 2 months after moving in.. mostly cherry and maple…. It was selective so it opened the woods a little.. there is bedding area that borders our land which is where the buck I killed was heading to and actually died in. All the bucks I’ve seen came from it or were heading to it.. There is an aspen section that I am going to put a plot in.. those things die and fall all the time and are useless for animals… it’ll come along and the extra property has thick pine areas… lots of possibilities! I love thick pine, great for winter bedding also. Could always try and ask to shed hunt it this spring, see if any future bucks reside. Sent from my SM-S901U using Tapatalk
@Tony , Thanks for the great time even thou it was less than 2 hrs. Enjoyed a conversation with you tony
Hey guys I put down a nice pa public land buck yesterday afternoon. More to come when I get decent signal.
Heck yeah @JoshKeller !!! I scored yesterday as well- my hunting partner/cousin already had one freezer buck on the books for the season, he'd been seeing decent 6-8 pointers the past few days at his stand in the swamp, he didn't feel like going out last night, so he told me to go sit his stand, I was there and about an hour till dark I could see a doe being chased by a buck across the cattails in some cedars maybe 80 yards out, I couldn't tell what the buck was. After about 20 minutes of grabass, the doe came on a line straight towards me and ran less than 5 yards under my stand and past me. I could just see antlers coming through the cattails so I drew back and as he cleared the tall stuff he kind of turned broadside, I didn't even look at the rack, and just as I touched the release trigger he turned more directly towards me, so I hit him high above his near shoulder but under his spine, barely exited his offside hindquarter and (later determined) broke his back leg, he staggered about 40 yards, stood there for over a minute. I launched another arrow but it deflected off a branch into the stratosphere- and then he tipped over. There was no blood to speak of but upon gutting I got most all of his near lung and destroyed his liver, a bit of gut but not bad. Ended up being about 12" swooping spikes on either side, with a non-countable fork on the end of one. I'll post pics later today. I'm in a ground blind with 30-06 this AM for the MI opener.
