First off, congrats on the kill. Sounds like you fellas had a good time. But, I've been on 100s of bowkills and don't believe I've ever seen both lungs/liver and gutts happen?
on the way on to the property around 3:30 am this AM, there is a small town to drive thru (dont blink) .. on the only road that goes thru it in a front yard I watched two big bucks square off (very nice critters too !) as they danced with a doe... this was in my headlites.. the 9 pt was easily a 140" class buck the other a 10 pt .. the 9pt stood for about 30 seconds in the road about 10 yds from the SUV before squaring off . ..the doe ran off and they followed, no fight darn it .. ... then once I got there, signed in and was driving to the area to park, another big 8 crossed in front of me following a doe into the refuge .. it was a full moon, crystal clear and 40 deg. ... they were moving for sure ...
So I'm about 65% sure that I have a dead deer that I will recover in the morning. I went right to my arrow at about 170 yd and had good blood splatter that I posted the pic of. I couldn't pick up much more after that because I am color blind. So I ended up going back to my neighbor who offered to help me track and he came out with his lab that he has been working with to help track deer. That dog got on that blood trail licking the arrow and went straight as an arrow 250 yd just hotter than could be until it got back out to the crp. We then saw three sets of eyes shining in the dark and I got up to about a hundred yards maybe a little bit less and two of the does got up and bound it off. The third deer put their eyes down and tried to hide in the grass. At that point I made the decision to back out because clearly that deer was not dead. It sure seems like it was a hurt deer and likely would be my buck. Looking at the arrow again and two people who could actually see blood, the arrow had about 10 inches of penetration with blood splatter all the way out to the fletching. This is a dead deer and I think I should be able to find it first thing in the morning. I work tomorrow unfortunately but I'm going to get out before work and hopefully can go right there to where it should be. I figure if I don't find it then I didn't kill it but it should be right there where I think it's going to be. I should have enough time to butcher it and get it on ice before work. And with the temp starting to drop I think the meat should be okay. It's now in the 60s but going to cool down all night. Sent from my SM-G996U using Tapatalk
Just so you know, my skivvies only work for other hunters if I’ve already worn them and they haven’t been washed. It’s the streak on the back of them that’s lucky. I call it the “lucky streak”.
