All set up in our pinch point stand. Temps are high but.... deer are deer and hopefully they listen to their hormones. C'mon Halloween buck!
In a tree this morning. Warmer than I would like. Little foggy and everything is wet. Probably going to sit until 11 or so and come back out for the evening
Woke up extra early today, took a scent-free shower, dressed at my hunting spot, sprayed down, snuck in like a ninja (even used my red light just in case), ran the Ozonics, and didn't make any noise or move all morning. And still didn't see a deer.
I saw the #1 on our farm two nights in a row from the stand. He was in a staging area about 45yrds away but on the other side of the fence. He put on quite a show, he was grunting, snort wheezed twice, did the flehman lip curl, chased a doe, worked 2 scrapes and tore up some brush. I had two does come through the fence and he followed but he turned around at the fence line. Got the heart beating pretty good, it was pretty awesome just seeing him act all rutty.
It always amazes me how many deer have been mere steps away from death and never even knew it. How does that always seem to happen??
Shot a 5 point this morning. Been rushing to get deer cut up and all since temps close to 70. He’s at least 50 points, lol. I’ll take some measurements in a few days to see. First bow kill in 5 years, feels good to connect and put some meat in the freezer.
Nice work!!! Congrats on a fine animal. I'm hoping to sneak out for a couple hours this afternoon. Not expecting a ton of movement, but it only takes one.
All my bucks are nocturnal at the moment… unfortunately I hunt a very small property and most of the bedding etc is elsewhere so I don’t have much of choice but to sit where I know they will be passing through and hope the rut gets them moving in the daylight soon. Fingers crossed. Congrats on the deer archbunk!!! Sent from my iPhone using Bowhunting.com Forums
Windy and warm appears to be the theme for a week. I was going to hunt off the ground in a transition area this evening and do some rattling but didn't think anything would be able to hear me. Maybe tomorrow....
Hunted last night - saw a borderline shooter buck and a dink. Rattled him in to 20 yards but he was in some brush and never presented a shot. I wasn't sure I was going to shoot him anyways, so I'm glad he didn't commit. This morning I saw three bucks out cruising, all small. I'm taking this afternoon and probably all day tomorrow off. I will probably take my son out Sat night/Sun morning and see if we can get him on a deer. Going to put the decoy out in a picked bean field and camp out in the ground blind. Should be fun!
Hi all, I am in the Northern suburbs of Chicago, but the does are on the move! Saw two in one sit last Friday, and two this past Tuesday. Bucks are moving at night, so nothing exciting to report there. Good luck!
Bucks are most definitely on the move during daylight right now. I've seen multiple bucks out crossing wide-open fields in the mornings lately. It's time to be in the woods as much as humanly possible! If tomorrow morning's rain ends in time I may pop out for a quick afternoon sit after all. It will all depend on the weather.
30-40 mph gusts today and 40-50 mph tomorrow. Time to rest up, wash some clothes, charge the camera batteries and get ready for next week. Planning on taking my son out all day on Sunday to sit in a blind over a decoy. Hoping for some fun action! Then I'll get back after it on Monday for myself.
I don't get it! What a weird week. Older bucks disappeared and seeing very few does. I have seen a 100 little bucks. Are the mature bucks locked down on a doe and not moving? WTH, the spots that are usually good have zero movement on older deer. Struggling!!!
