Normally this time of year I would be getting pretty pumped up, but weather and lack of movement on my cameras has certainly put a kabosh to that excitement. Sooooooooo..... plan is this Thursday or Friday to get in the blind to get my uncle a doe for his freezer, and then possibly wait out through the weekend until next Mon-Wed when the New Moon is hitting perfectly.
Just got a very interesting and exciting phone call. My one neighbor that has helped me with passing deer and managing the doe herd called to let me know my big boy was bedded on my fence line which is near to one of my prime stands for the rut. Sadly have a zoom meeting until 4 tonight so won't be able to make it into the stand, but at least was good news since haven't had him on any cameras for over a week. Bad thing is the deer is only a 3 1/2 so his roaming tendencies have certainly heightened it seemed this year. Usually like going for 4+ age deer but his rack is way to tempting
I told my 3 yr old daughter, who happens to be a HUGE animal lover, that "Daddy wants this one on the wall", and the response I got was "No daddy, I love that one".... meanwhile my son who is more of the aborigine of my children goes "Dad, shoot him right in the heart". Hahahaha... gotta love kid talk
LittleChief I didn't see a thing, but a squirrel hunter could have eaten like a king had he been on that ridge. Sent from my Pixel 4 using Tapatalk
Oh how I wish someone could have seen all the deer I saw in Kentucky the past six days. I have no idea how many does I saw. I killed two of those and could have killed a few more. I’m still seeing that huge 8 point I saw evening before last every time I close my eyes. Then there’s the 10 point buck I drew on the next morning. I had to let down and the string derailed on my bow. I was just texting another forum member saying how odd it was that I came home with two deer in the coolers and was still disappointed.
I actually built a folder today of a ton of KY public spots to consider a trip to next year myself. Sounds like you had an excellent trip even if buckless!
It was an awesome trip. I’d be lying if I said I have no regrets, but I keep thinking how much fun that would have been had I not been alone. Man, I can’t tell you how tired I am of hunting alone. I still do it and will keep doing it, but it gets old.
win or lose this year I will try and get blessing from wife for two things - go hunt KY (if able same time as you) and I got a friend that has been begging me to come up and hunt his Wisconsin property for years. I always say no cuz I feel I cannot just go for free…he is gonna let me come do a weekend worth of labor in “exchange” for a trip up north next year!
LC… What’s Missouri look like November 31st thru December 3rd? My wife will be headed to Florida for a womens business conference Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I have to be honest Brett. That time frame doesn’t really look good anywhere as far as deer movement forecasts go. I’d love for you to make a trip here to hunt bud I’d truly hate for you to come all the way from Nebraska at a time when deer aren’t going to be moving good. I sure wish you could be here next week. The late October new moon is going to be a special time. I have another idea for that the frame though. Let me talk to the farmer whose land I hunt in Kentucky. It will take me a day or so to check things out, but I’ll let you know.
Rick that sounds like a great hunt! So close yet so far away, and that’s why we do it! Sounds like slowly but surely everyone is getting out or getting ready to hit it hard. I’m ready for more deer to fall for us! LC sounds like you had a fun but somewhat frustrating trip to Kentucky. Happy to hear it didn’t take much to get the bow back in working order. I haven’t been out a whole lot lately besides for a Saturday morning and Sunday night hunt this last weekend but did see a load of deer. I’ve been spending my free time after work this week getting things in order and having some fun with my boys. Saturday morning the truck will be 2 wheels out of the driveway and headed to Missouri! A couple warm days but cools back off on Tuesday. LC hit the nail on the head….very excited about the small front cooling it off almost 20 degrees from Sunday to Tuesday and the late October new moon! Keep on grinding guys, the most fun/frustrating time to been in the deer woods is almost upon us. Sent from my iPhone using Bowhunting.com Forums
Headed to Disney this morning Be back late Tuesday night Hoping the deer activity will get busy upon my return Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
