Oh my!!! Life goals right there! I’ve been trying my butt off to break the 170 mark. Sent from my iPhone using Bowhunting.com Forums
Kicking myself in the ass. I didn’t get up to hunt this morning like I planned. I was up for about 20hrs the day before and just couldn’t do it. I did have to drop my son off at school to help my wife out but after that I went out to breakfast. Saw deer plastered all over the road and a nice 8 walking along the road. We had a decent frost this morning. Dang I’m mad.
I know how you feel Ash! Didn't go yesterday afternoon because of wind and snow. Field across the road four does were being chased by little buck. Field behind my house my biggest buck was there with does. Now I caught a head cold when I should be hunting.
Seems most people like them. Son treats his like a truck. Keeps snow tires on it year round. Fourman for a crushing crew that travels around to different pits. Has a couple year old f-150 but he's always driving the outback. I drove it a few years back when they moved. I was the only one that knew how to drive a stick shift. I was impressed how good it still drove and was the easiest and smoothest manual I ever drove.
I mean I think I'd target him brother....he'll go north of 100" for sure LOL That type of buck will keep ya in a stand!
So far my plans haven't worked on him. Neighbor owns the woods he comes from, can't hunt him there. Pop up blinds on edge of plots deer learned fast to circle down wind of them. I do have a tree stand 200 yards on tree line north of there. Might try decoy there with a west wind. North wind I'll try just laying out a sleeping pad and hide in the tall weed edge and use crossbow.
For those of you who don't follow the LFTS thread, I got to full draw on a 10 point this morning, and that's where everything went wrong. He was behind me in the corn field at 20 yards, but there were only small openings. I was pretty contorted when I drew as he approached a small opening. As luck would have it, he stopped before he was clear and started eating corn. I waited and when he turned to browse I went to let down. I guess I was torquing the bow when I let down because the string derailed with a loud thwack. The buck just bounced out to 35 yards, stood there for a minute and then kept eating corn. Then the does started piling into my area. I had deer within bow range for a good half hour and no stinking functional bow. I finally managed to get down after they all left. I have no idea where the arrow I had nocked is. I sure couldn't find it. While all of the deer were around me I texted the farmer and he texted me a couple of archery shop options. When I finally got down and back to the camper I called and Dave Wilson of Wilson's Archery in Wingo, KY said he'd take a look at it. I drove the 20 minutes there and left with my bow all put back together. I test shot it of course. The first shot was perfect and the second shot busted the nock on the first arrow. I figured that was pretty good. I'll get back out there this afternoon. I would just go out now and sit the rest of the day but I don't expect anything but doe traffic until later in the afternoon.
I finally got a chance this afternoon to get out. My cameras on the farm I typically hunt have been slow so I am trying some public land this afternoon. Just got sat up on a pretty nice oak ridge, but the wind is pretty swirly so we will see what happens. Sent from my Pixel 4 using Tapatalk
I have had good luck hunting edges and open fields from a bale blind. I have shot deer from them within hours of putting them out. We have a lot of hay ground and they don't look twice at them. Just a thought. Good luck!
sounds like my debacle a couple weekends ago when my release wouldn’t latch but 10 times worse I probably would have needed a new bow if a buck like that would have came in I would have wrapped it around a tree. Glad your back up and running Littlechief
LC I had a bow derail one time. I remember the helpless feeling Got over my cold fast, wife complained a little about the smell with all the vicks I rubbed on. Almost made it happen this afternoon. Food plot is like 200 yards by 50 yards. Set decoy in middle of plot, I set up on weed edge about 20 yards away. Just put down a sleeping bag pad to lay down on. Had around 10 does 70 yards away. Close to quitting time the does started running and saw a big rack bobbing around. Two does came running past me and stopped by the decoy. Buck comes walking through 20 yards away, just ready to shoot when he turns and starts coming right at me. Doe runs past me going back where she came from. Buck runs after her. I don't think they had a clue I was there. It was exciting but no shot.
