Good luck Slugger. Temps are rising like heck here. Mid 90s coming by tomorrow then for about 5 days. Then a 20 degree drop.
Morning hunt was a bust. Saw 4 headlamps on the way in, had one fella about 30 yards away from me and two squirrel hunters shooting about 50 yards away.
I had our last bow shoot today,. It went well, now it's getting close for the Pa opener. 2 wks. 10/01/22. Can't wait. Slugger and VS getting close. Blood will be drawn for Pred VS Prey#3. Yes sir
Yesterday it took me two hours to slowly walk in to hunt the swamp. Well I get in real quiet and get set only to realize the tree Im in makes some weird sound every time I move. LOL. So I start coming down to move to another tree. When I step off the climber I look and see a doe at 15 yds staring at me. hahaha. She trots off. It would have been a slam dunk shot had I been on stand. haha
Ive had that happen before, if I could have I would kicked myself in the nuts. Lol. Stay with your gut VS. Limit movement even more then. Now pick a tree about 15 -20 yards away and you'll catch her looking in that tree next time. Iv done that too. Good luck. Kill kill kill
Saturday night was SLOW. I did have a doe skirt around me in some cover before shooting light ended but she went behind a tree with a bunch if cover and never came back out, I assume she went down into the draw. While I was packing up an adult doe and her faun came through but legal light was up, I watched the fun and she was hopping around in the mowed CRP and munching but eventually got a bit of my wind and trotted around back into the timber to be with mama, they fed around d Mr for about 10 minutes then went down into the draw. It was a tough sit as my heel was killing me (bought a heal insert) and my calf was sore as all get out from the morning hunt, didn't tweak anything but the atrophy in my left leg is awful. It took me about 25 minutes or so to walk from my stand to the house, and with a healthy achilles itd be a 5 minute walk. Good news is I got the brace off this morning and the doc told me to go on living life as norm but don't go crazy and don't over exert myself. My next sit will be Friday, we have a nice cool front coming in and the Temps will be low 50s. I'll have to space out my hunts to make sure I'm getting appropriate rest but God willing I'll get it done Friday.
Great work on the quick recovery. Calf muscles build up fast and I bet within 2 weeks you are feeling much better.
Sorry for not chatting more frequently and checking in as much. Love the action so far from those updating. Got a couple better pics of target buck this year with my brother in law. Hoping one of us are able to bring him home before rifle opener. I've only got 1 weekend scheduled so I'm going to have to have better luck than I did last year and I thought I was super lucky last year.
To be honest, it belongs to him. He has upkept the little 10 acre plot for years now. And the amount of activity he has been able to bring in on it with all the hunters around it is absolutely mind blowing. I wont be slighted in the least if he gets it. That kid has earned every bit of that buck. There are several other 10 pointer showing up, as well as another typical 12, if not 2. So i will have my opportunities for sure. Only question will be if I can repeat the process from last year and get off a clean shot. Fingers crossed for sure.
