Big congrats for a big animal! If you don’t feel like eating all of that I’d be happy to send you my address

So part of my back yard became a food plot and the practice stand my become a hunting stand!

I tried to post a video but apparently I do not know how. I was able to video a five point bull for a few minutes. He was like 19 yards away for me.

In order to post a video it has to be posted online somewhere first like YouTube, Instagram or something like that. Then you imbed the link to the video.

Now you know why I don’t post videos.

This year‘s elk hunt was a little tough. I hadn’t seen too many elk. My second son had missed two elk. One he was able to shoot at twice at 40 yards and missed both times. He missed a spike at 30 yards. We think he is dropping his bow when he shoots to look at the animal.
The first week of the hunt it rained about every day. This last week was warmer then usual and very dry. We went from mud to very dusty. So this last week we sat on some wallows for the afternoon hunts. The bulls weren’t the most vocal. They were only sounding off very early and late. I had a little video of a 5 point bull that came in but he came in silent. So Thursday late afternoon I was sitting at a wallow and I usually cow call ever so often. So I did a rallying cow calling sequence fallowed by a location bugle. About 10 minutes later I thought I heard something so I did a soft cow call. About 5 minutes later they came crashing in. There were 4 cows and a 290-300ish 6 point bull that was following them. Here in Utah most of the OTC archery tags are spike or cow. So mostly we just get to watch them and be amazed by them. They were anywhere from 15-20 yards and one of the yearling cows presented me with a slight quartering away shot. The arrow buried up to the Fletching. They took off running she went around 150 yards and died on the run and rolled 50 yards down the hillside.

The wife and I were putting some old weld-wire fencing down in our flower bed to keep our demonic Australian Shepherd from digging up the bulbs.

This girl (I assume it’s female) showed up to say hello. The openings in the wire are 2”x4” so she’s a big one.

Hey @Tony, she was asking if I knew the way to your house.

We finally got some rain on Saturday. It has been such a miserable drought that I was not even going to start Fall plots until we had some moisture in the ground to work it up. I ordered some seed a while back from one of our members here (Lester@RakkFuel) and got one decent plot put in last evening. I have several more acres to do and plan on working on them again today after work. I had kept the fields mown very short and went in with a 5' tiller to work up the ground and then culti-packed it after seeding. Now we need a few more showers to get things up and going, but the packing does seal in what moisture was already there.

    Thanks.

I got here at about 4:15 and we decided that was too late to hang a climber for tomorrow since we’ve had pics of bucks moving as early as 3:30 pm.

I did put a climber out for the morning sit. It’s a good spot too.

    We will see what happens.

Good luck to you also Rick!

I posted these pics in the LFTS, but this is the fourth evening in a row this buck has been here during shooting light.

If he does it tomorrow evening and I haven’t already killed one he’s going to be in trouble.
