Good morning from Iowa. Have a great holiday weekend! Somewhere in that photo there has to be a solid fork-horn that I can put on the scoresheet for tynimiller.

Well, for better or worse I'm here in Kentucky. I only put out one stand this afternoon, and that was in what I call the "T" woods.

When I left there was minimal rain in the forecast. Now it's scattered thunderstorms for the next week. I thought about heading back home after the morning sit tomorrow but I will stick it out for a few days and see what happens.

My best buck spot is across Mayfield Creek. It's a pretty large creek. Right now there is only about 5" of water in it and it can be crossed easy, but if we get any heavy rain it will become impossible to cross, so I don't want to put a stand there yet.

To make matters worse, I didn't bring rubber boots, rain gear or a tree umbrella. I guess there is always Wal-Mart tomorrow.

Perhaps someone up there is trying to tell me not to hunt until the Missouri opener when I'll have a chance at a big boy.

Yeah, but the frustrating part is that you're 7400 miles away from that buck.

Walked the state land tonight with my son and the pup. Just a quick walk we covered maybe 40acres. Not a ton of sign but we did find an area that had been browsed on pretty decently. This may be my opening day spot as I do not want to burn out my normal spots early.

I've managed 2 1/2 sits so far and seen zero deer. It's a real head-scratcher here where I hunt in Kentucky.

I know they're here because I've seen the deer sign. I guess I've been doing it wrong.

Well technically I can start hunting the 15th in my reduction zones (have to kill an antlerless first) otherwise normal season is October 1st...I still have a stand to hang and plots to overseed at my place and even plant at my other place. Going HEAVY cereal grains for cheap at that place and ease since we have not been granted firearams permission for years now due to grandson's friend (who hunts gun with him) I think controlling grandson into keeping Grandpa (owner) from telling us the grandson is done and we can come back. We used to plant brassica heavy for late season as the bucks would flock to this spot come late season but now with that off the table we have backed off plot plantings as it is a lot of work for others to just capitalize.

This week either Friday or Saturday at the latest I'll get these tasks done however, hate disturbing my place this close to season but won't be a massive deal and only visiting plots so shouldn't bump deer more than a day.

Dang it guys, I had to scroll down to find our thread. Need to keep this sucker at the top where we belong.

Weekend update: Got my early season temporary stand set. Once I got up in the tree and cleared some lanes, I noticed how much travel there is in that little spot. Bonus, the tree I'm in is completely surrounded by acorns, should be a pretty decent spot up until mid-late October, perhaps longer depending if travel is changed. I really waned to do some scouting, but the humidity was brutal on Monday, I was soaking wet just hanging these sticks not working hard.

The season is closing in, bow is ready, clothes are getting ready. I think my mind is almost ready.

My “hunting trip” to Kentucky was a disaster. It rained off and on, I got soaked a couple of times, didn’t see a single deer and ended up getting sick last night and drove home this morning feeling like crap.

Well, at least this little guy is still hanging around the home place.

Tomorrow I’m going to check my non-cellular cameras again.

Figger from sitting in the rain?

I've hunted in raging blizzards but am a pussy about sitting in the rain.

I don’t think it had anything to do with getting wet.

Just rotten luck all around for that trip.

    It happens.
