Fellas and Ladies, I need help landing on a business name. I passed the National home inspectors exam and need a business name. I cannot get my license or LLC paperwork done without the name, or at least to reduce the run-around changing names later. I've asked my "home" support team and they are about as useful as a cat in a pool. I think I'm way overthinking this as no one actually looks up a home inspector, they usually get recommendations from a realtor. Perhaps I just need a few to say "that looks good, go ahead". I think I've settled on "Virtus Property Inspection" or VPI, LLC for short, I'm trying to avoid using my name anywhere. Virtus = Valor, taken from my Army unit motto: Ne Desit Virtus (Let Valor not Fail) This is my last ditch attempt to think up something, I've been beating my head against a wall for a week.
I like VPI... I think you are right about ppl not looking up Home Inspectors. I think I still follow my last inspector on FB, just because he asked to help him spread word about his work. Get creative with your marketing and the name doesn't mean as much. That being said, VPI is catchy for some reason.
That's as tough one, it should be recognized and remembered. Flow off the tongue, and be something YOU can live with...BTW Congrats and good luck. The only thing I had come to mind is " Hiden Truths" home inspections
I put my business under my name. My thought process was I was willing to put my name on my work. But I agree in the long run, it doesn't matter much. It's mostly just something to put on the front page of your inspection report. I personally like anything that comes off positive and catchy, makes it easier to remember. Honestly I've used a dozen home inspector's in my career and can't remember any of there company's names, just there personal name, haha! Sent from my SM-G900V using Tapatalk
I keep saying it, it rolls off the tongue well, seems easy to remember even if they think "VIP". I thought about something like that, there is one in Indiana with that name. I'm not feeling it though, which is why I'm in this dilemma.
That's what I wanted at first, I was going to call it McArthur Home Inspection (MHI) or McArthur Property Inspections (MPI), but I don't want to limit it to just my name. Me either, that's why I think I'm over-thinking this. I may just put VPI on the paperwork and run with it.
It depends on where you wanted to be listed. VPI is going to be at the end of the listing alphabetically. There is a strategy to marketing a name as well. This is why you see a lot of "A1" business names.
eh...most folks google businesses these days. Back when the phone book was a thing, or yellow pages, alphabetical was kind of important. AAA, A1, etc. Maybe I'm wrong here, but marketing and advertising is soooo different now than even 10 years ago
Can't help with the name, but make sure you hit up your local lenders, realtors and maybe home improvement stores to see if they have a referral program, could leave a card, etc...once you get established. If you intend to try commercial inspections, you'll want to talk to your local banks procurement people.
If I remember right, you own a Jeep, does it have a bikini top? If so, then go with VPI. Company motto, "official home inspectors" with the company logo being a silhouette of a Jeep Bikini top, arrive in the Jeep with bikini top, people will remember you.
I’d just roll with Virtus Property Inspection But use VPI, if your looking for advertising like heckler said V is in the back, but not many people use yellow pages or alphabetic searches for company’s. For my business I incorporated under a full name but use the acronym PCS. I was beating my head against the wall for many days over a name, don’t overthink it! Congrats and good luck in your business!
I was trying to get MILF, McArthur inspection…couldn’t think of the last two. I’m usually really good at thinking of dumb catchy names, but drawn a blank for myself.
I’m sticking with VPI, I think I just needed to put it in the open and hear it from others. I’ll report back when I’ve made my first million. The good news is that I’ll win the all expenses paid hunting trips for employee of the month.
I would use your name - I feel like home inspection is something you will develop a "Personal Brand" with - even it is with builders or realtors, I feel like they will think of you personally before they think of the brand name. Might work best if those are two in the same?
