Congratulations on your retirement! You must have loved your work Brett. I have to admit that I’ve never felt anything but relief when I left a job.
Sounds like you had a job you enjoyed. Not sure how many people can say that or you were happy as heck to get out of there.
I loved every single day My body on the other hand was a different story Africa in 6 days with the wife Then hunting Walleye & Disney trips in October Then hunting Hawaii in December Then hunting Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
He was back with his running buddy. I’m glad to see they’re becoming regulars but I’d like to see more daylight pics of them.
My son and my son-in-law went after that big deer that was in the orchard behind my son-in-law‘s house. They couldn’t find that big deer so my son-in-law shot this 3 x 2. He’s trying to work full-time and do school full-time so his time was limited. My son is still trying to find the big guy though.
In Utah you have to draw for deer tags. With archery we get them about every other year. My oldest son and my son-in-law drew Nebo deer tags this year. My youngest son drew a Wasatch East archery tag this year. That is where we Elk hunt. We have come across a couple nice bucks this year. We have one buck we’ve been calling the sticker buck and another one we have been calling Type A. My son was within 40 yards twice of the sticker buck but could not get clean shot off. Me and my second son were up there chasing elk. The area we hunt for archery is only spike or cow. A lot of Utah is that way. Anyway my son missed a spike Saturday morning. When he first ranged it it was 32 yards but it was slowly feeding around a stand of quakies. He worked his way around the quakes to get a clean shot at it and did not range it again. We figured it was only 20-21yards and he shot at it thinking it was 27-28 yards. Needless to say he shot over it. We looked just to make sure he missed. Yesterday afternoon we had a thunderstorm for about an hour that was just unbelievable. It dumped a lot of rain and made a whole lot of noise with the lightning. Anyway it was a great weekend. I plan on going back up Wednesday. That is if I can get my truck fixed by then. I have a seal on my rear differential that is leaking.
LC, thanks. It is still really green up there. We have got some of our monsoonal weather this year. With a little better snow pack we had from this winter it is still real green.
So last night I wanted to hang a camera on a property I hunt. I’ve been taking the pup along with me when I’ve been going just to get him some more exercise and hoping he would stay close while we walk. I wasn’t really expecting to see much because of me plodding along and the dog. I was walking the dog leashed for a bit then I let it go. He was good for about 20 yds of walking then a 4 pt popped out for the golden rod and the chase was on. Dog and deer out of sight. About 3 to 4 minutes later as I’m walking in the direction of where they ran the dogs coming back thankfully. So I leash him back up and we start walking again. We get to the tree line and a couple coons are making there way towards us but they didn’t notice us until about 15 yds away. Once they saw the dog and I one went up the tree the other boomed it. Dog never saw them. They would have tore him up. He’s only 8 months so he’s not ready to tangle with those boys yet but he does seem to have a wild side. I hunt this area every year a little it’s only a 40acre piece but wanted to get a camera up because this is the 1st time the land owner has put corn on it. Close to 2 acres.I asked him when he was going to take it down he said September so that was a little disappointing.
Huge congrats on your retirement! Sounds like you already have an amazing plan for the first few months. Enjoy the travel! Africa is a dream of mine. I really have no ambition to hunt there, but would love a photo safari. I shed a tear or two when I sold my insurance agency in January. It's a big change and a piece of life that you have to let go. If you love your work, its hard to let go. But, on to bigger and better things! Take care.
