Fished for a couple hrs on a new river today. Only caught 3. Water was low and warm but I had fun and it was good exercise. I needed that.

Hot night going to drag some lures behind the pontoon going with a spinner instead of a spoon. Sorry Papa, my grandpa loved trolling little cleos.

So results were not good only one bass. I am also ashamed to say I under estimated my beer inventory I only had seltzer on hand, not proud of that. I can not cast a bait caster worth a crap, it is so hard wired to release the thumb to cast.

Saying my goodbyes to the Virginia waterways. Took the day off work and will be headed to a place I picked on the map. Nothing like wade fishing for smallmouth.

Figured out my issue with casting a bait caster, that reel is a flipping reel. I will change tactics.

Does it have a switch on it to go from flipping to regular casting? I have a Lews reel that acts up sometimes with the switch.
Went out on the river with my wife and girl yesterday, we broke in her new rod with 3 SMB. She was all fired up, I ended up caching a decent one on her rod when she was napping. It was a trip!

Couple like this, then the turtles decided they liked my bait too. Still fun.

Took the family to Branson for an impromptu weekend trip. Bought a one day license and fished Table Rock Lake in the state park from the shore for a couple of hours. Didn’t catch anything worth taking pictures of. That’s what happens when you sleep in and start at 11am on a day where the heat index is 100+.

But, that now adds Missouri to the list of states and/or Canadian provinces I have had a fishing license in to 13: BC, Alberta, NWT, Oregon, Montana, Wyoming, Colorado, Texas, Arkanasas, Wisconsin, Florida, Yellowstone National Park and Missouri.

Alaska is the big bucket list destination left. Any others are just incidental along the way.

My 75 yr old Dad keeps asking me to take him to my smallmouth honey hole near Richmond. Haha. I've told him numerous times that the river is treacherous and dangerous for falls on rocks...that's why those fish are there bc no idiot like me goes in there. He responds and tells me, "dont you know I'm in Good shape for a 75 yr old and I'll fish there if I want..." LOL. Frigging old Marine never gives in to weakness. I love it.

So it's my mission to find him a gentle river or creek to walk and fish this late summer or fall in Missouri. I just want him to be able to wade fish like him and I used to many years ago.

Man, I didn't realize we had a fishing thread going on. Thanks for starting it. i live in central pa and my son and I fish from ice off till usually sometime in November. We mostly muskie fish but take a break and fish for bass and trout. The muskies have been "off" pretty much in every body of water we fish this year for some reason. I finally pinned a decent one last week during a cold front.

virginiashadow, wade fishng in the low water months during the summer is a blast. You ever get to PA, we have two rivers that are world class smallie fisheries. We usually hit it a few times a year when it gets piping hot and its not safe to fish for muskies.

My oldest son and I threw the boat in over the holiday and hit a local lake for some bass. Had a great outing with lots of really quality fish. Several that were pushing around 4 pounds. This one was my best for the morning at a little over 5 pounds. We put about 15 in the boat and all were released.

Went back to the river I started fishing over 30 years ago. Brand new spot and had a blast. Just two bluegill ang two smallmouth but it was fun. Fitting end to my VA fishing for the foreseeable future.

20220503_175316.jpg You sure fish some beautiful spots!.

I don't fish much anymore but was a fishing freak for 30 years.
I've spent 12+ hours and not a single fish.
Also many days I got almost bored catching g fish.

One thing I learned from scuba diving is..., there are days when fish are

super active and someday they are super lethargic.
Can be a day apart with what seems like the exact same temps/weather.
Have tried putting things together to no avail.
What I HAVE learned is, active fish are seldom right on the bottom.
Active/feeding fish are up off the bottom. Especially walleyes.

At ,y cabin now getting ready for some foodplot work.
    Sure am missing Roscoe.

I have caught more walleyes between 11 am and 1 pm in the right conditions than I have fishing what is considered "prime time" I prefer salt water fishing with the tides and weather candy from a baby it is easy.
