Swampy and me could survive monkey pox deep out in them woods. Go green by showering together under waterfalls.

What the two of you do alone in the woods is your business, what selfies get shared of your nature showers, sadly, becomes our business. No more shower selfies, even if they are in a waterfall.

Back to the regular schedule programing. How many miles do you guys estimate you drive in a hunting season?

Say I hunted NE, MO, KS and OK and I drive 2500 miles in total and average 15 mpg. Thats approx. 167 gallons in fuel.

Previous gas price of $3 /gallon, new gas price of 5/gallon.

    167 gallons at $3 / gallon = $501
    167 gallons at $5 / gallon = $835

So that is $334 in addional fuel costs. This sounds like a good excuse but in the scheme of things, hunting equipment, licenses, tags, and other travel expenses this is negligible. The further I drive the more money I spend on tags, and other travel expenses so again the increase cost has little or no effect on hunting related adventures.

IMO... Your mileage may vary.... Pun intended. :) Not all are in the same situation.

If I were still working instead of being retired it wouldn’t phase me at all, but I’m not.

I hunt here at home in Missouri and I also hunt Kentucky and Arkansas and I’d guess that I drive close to 4000 miles, if not more, hunting every year. Also, a good chunk of that is towing the travel trailer and I get 10 mpg towing that thing if I’m lucky.

If it were only gas prices that were skyrocketing I could probably still swing it, but food prices are way up as well. Something has to be cut out and food is one thing we can’t cut out.

If you’re one of the folks that can afford it with no problems then I’m happy for you, but this economic situation is going to put a damper on hunting for me and a lot of others.

I may still swing a trip or two to Kentucky and Arkansas, but I’ll definitely have to cut down if not cut one or both of them out.

I usually drive 3000-5000 miles per year for hunting activities (including shooting competitions and scouting.) I get prob on average 15mpg, and gas is almost $6 gallon here. So split the babies, 4000 miles / 15mpgs = 267 gallons needed @ $5.50 = $1468, at $6/g it's over $1600....

It isn't changing anything for me as far as hunting trips. Heading to IA (fingers crossed pending draw) and will be hunting Ohio and Home state of Pa 2-2.5hr drive from SW Pa to Ohio. The Pa spots are all within 1 hr from home. Stay in hotel for a week in Ohio and up to 15 days in IA if we draw. I also can take my wife’s SUV, better on gas then my 1500. I put around 4K miles in last year rough estimate. Gotta pay to play, pile of boats out in Erie fishing too. Seems like a lot of people don’t care or there just as dumb as me haha.

Nothing wrong with a hang and hunt. Killed some big ones doing that. I always say the probability is higher killing a mature deer in the first 3 sits in a new stand.

Unfortunately not. I have 3 major papers due on Monday for my summer classes. I'll have a lot more free time in 2 weeks once the first summer session is over. I have a few spots I want to check out that I've never been able to get to before without a defibrillator.

    You?

No. Late spring and summer I just work my butt off so I can take alot of time off in the fall. Ticks are bad around here and get covered the second you go in the woods. Plan as of now will be same as last year. Go in the first week and try and find a buck just from scouting and observations. Seems to work best for me as long as there is a buck around.
