Did a search and it really didn't help with my questions. Does it actually work? Can deer smell it? Anybody try the hacks?

I'm a cheapskate. Last fall found one in a thrift store. Sealed in the package for 5.95. Senior day. 25% off. It was fall and I put it aside. Yesterday I found a new camo cover for it for .99. Made me dig it out. And I went down a rabbit hole.

Bow season I'm usually in a portable type tree stand. Not sure it's much good there. Rifle season I'm in a box stand and no bugs. I do have several pop-up blinds. Crazy but, I use them for my photography hobby. Could be useful there if they actually work.

Before spending more time and money on this, I was looking for real feedback. Thanks.

Worth every penny. Works great. Been using them for years and haven't noticed a bad reaction from deer that I could attribute to the thermal cell.

Open ground blinds, stands during bow season love mine....This said they run out fast and I've had 2 that the starter quit making it useless.

That said, couple that with permethrin treatment on the clothing and its a pretty good system

I can't imagine deer season without a thermocell, particularly in an open tree stand. They most definitely work.

Wow. That's.....a lot. Lol. The mosquitos in MN can be quite voracious.

Been using permethrin for about 6 years now. Awesomes stuff. Great for ticks. But, you can't put it on your skin.

They are great for black flies too. I couldn't turkey hunt in the spring with out mine.

Thank you for all the replies. Guess I have to give this thing a try.

I do have a full body bug suit. It helped. But, there were THOUSANDS trying to get through. And it was a test of one's sanity. The constant buzz is insane. Any body part (nose, ears, fingers) touching it were vulnerable. Without a repellant you'd get bit. They'd find a way through. I was using a product by Repel that had earth scent in it that worked well but, that's getting harder to find. Eventually I just started hunting after the first frost.

Here's my concern. I work so hard to eliminate or cover MY scent but, add all these others to not get chewed up. It stinks to me. How does this not alert a deer?

Good to know. The black flies are horrible at certain times at the hunting property. May have to buy more of these things. Lol.

Well I sure hope these things work. Stopped at Fleet Farm this last weekend. Had the mr300 for 19.99. Also had a patio model on sale for 17.99. Grabbed one of each. The 48 hr packs were 19.99. Lo and behold, they make one with earth scent. Spent way more than I should have but, if they work......

I will. It's the same mechanism, different package. They make a number of different models. Some with lanterns in them. This will stay at home and use the regular scent. The other 2 will be used for hunting with the earth scent.

I have the patio lantern one and it works well. I even sometimes carry it with me while hunting, It has 2 brightness and gives a soft diffused light. I use the earth scent as well.

Not sure, but I’ll let you know.
I’ve had 2 of them laying in a drawer, never used them.
When packing for my spring bear hunt, first one in Canada in 30 years, I threw them in. Normally just use my BugTamer jacket.
The mosquitoes were driving me crazy trying to get inside the jacket with me, so I fired up one unit.
In less than 10 minutes, there was not a mosquito around me. Game Changer!
I didn’t notice much of a odor and the bears didn’t seem to be effected by it. Was sitting open stands.
Making room in my fanny pack, I won’t be hunting early season anywhere without one.
Taking both to Tennessee next week. Ya never know.

I bow hunt on the Eastern Shore of Maryland and don't dare go in the woods during September or October without one. I always carry an extra card and fuel. I do what I can with scent elimination and always hunt the wind. I would rather be in the woods than waiting for those vampires to die from frost and the only thing I've found to make that happen is a thermacell.
