I have a small book I make notes in for permission and dates I received permission and name of land owner. The one guy down the road told me he won’t let me archery hunt his farm/adjacent to my prop bc he has seen too many deer with arrows sticking outa them in gun season, I just said ok and that was that. This was 4 yrs ago I may revisit it again this year and see what he says. Some people just don’t want people on their prop, I would rather just get a hard no then an excuse. Such is life!

I think that our culture has made people worry about things that they shouldn't worry about. If that gate was really a problem she could have said just don't open any gates. lol! It just sounds silly to an outdoorsmen that has been around livestock all of his life...

Asked for permission to walk for sheds on some private stuff a few weeks ago and the guy called back with his kid and had the 11 year old kid tell me no haha

There is a farmer down the road from me that either owns or leases 1000s of areas all around us. He won't let anyone hunt because he has 2 relatives that hunt. 2 guys for 1000s of acres.

This is the very same guy that actually farms some of my land. A number of times I have offered to allow him to farm my ground at no cost in trade for some additional acreage to hunt. He would rather write me a check every year... I don't get it!

Got permission for my only private ground this afternoon! 420 acres on 3 farms and only 120 of it tillable. All within 5 miles of home.

I haven't asked for permission to hunt in a very long time. When I did, I sometimes brought my young son along with me. It seemed to help more often than not.

Well I had a pretty good feeling about this one as I did some rootworm research with him years ago. He has a lot of big shots pheasant and deer hunt these properties so I never bothered with asking but finally yesterday said screw it and called. He was thrilled to hear from me and said absolutely have at it, no one else shed hunts out there.

Heading out to property #1 for a long lunch walk today!

I did the same (haven't hunted private outside the family for many years now), brought wife and kids if it was a property I really wanted to hunt. I had hand written cards with my name, phone number, address, and vehicle description and plate #. Didn't beat around the bush with them, just gave a straight forward spiel that I wanted to hunt their property with my family, we were mainly doing it for the memories and meat in the freezer, we were also property owners that understood it's importance to them, and that we'd treat it as if it were our own.
Worked more often than it didn't. Most times if I was told no it was because they themselves hunted and wanted it to themselves, completely understand that.

I got out for 2 1/2 hours after work this evening. Went to a piece of public I have never been to. Ended up with 2 fresh sheds. Both fork horns again. I'm on a roll with these forkies! 20220310_175729.jpg

One year i found 7 different spikes. 5 of them in the same food plot. One in a bed under a big pine and one in the driveway of the property owner!

I went I think 7 years before I ever found a true spike. I found a few that had a little nub of a brow starting, but I didn't consider it a spike. Then all in one year I found 5 or 6 in one season. Same as you I had a spot that I found 3 different ones all in a 20 yard spot in a drainage ditch of a field. Also found a matched set laying on top of each other, that was a cool find.

I had a buddy go out one day and came back with a fist full of spikes. Had to to be 10 plus of them. Found all in the same over grown field.

Remember the guy that found the button on here awhile back?? I don’t remember who it was for the life of me but he found a shed button when he was mushroom hunting. That has to be the best shed find ever.

On Monday I'll send a pic of all my spikes. It's dumb how many small antlers I have found.

Winter has been brutal up here, so the bucks dropped pretty early. Tyler and I have found quite a few but need the snow to melt. So far we have found 5 sheds of the 3 bigger bucks by the farm.
