Got her. She died 60 yards from my truck last night. I walked within 40 yards of her when I left. But the problem I was worried about happened. Coyotes got her. 20220127_092544.jpg

After the bike fiasco last night I didn’t think I’d see anything here this morning.

I was wrong. I’ve had deer within sight since first light over two hours ago. I counted 15 but I’m sure there were more. Im fairly certain all but two were does/fawns.

The first deer was a lone antlerless deer. It was headed my way but the wind shifted its way and it didn’t like the ozone smell. It just turned and went north.

The last group of does I was watching 85 yards north suddenly came running my way. One stopped 15 yards away and I almost drew but I saw it was a button buck.

Then I saw why they had bolted. A young 8 point came walking after them in the cedar thicket.

All that activity and the only deer in range was a button buck.

At least I can sit down for a few minutes.

@cantexian - this is at the “car body” stand.

They ate a rear quarter and half the tenderloin. I cut out all the bad. Looks like I will get about 2/3 of her.

You guys think it's safe after something has eaten on her? I never have. The guts were still steaming, so think she died late last night.

It's a shame the yotes got to her. As for safe... do yotes urinate on kills like wolves? If they do, I'd surrender her to nature.

Foxes and coyotes do. I don't know if this was a coyote or a fox. I had a fox blood trailing with me last night. I have had fox piss on them before and I did throw out the deer. I think it was eating on it when I walk up. No piss smell on her.

Could a deer blow up this much in 2 years? First pic is of a deer I got in 2019 and 2nd is 2021. Central MN on the 52 acres I hunt. Always fun reviewing pictures of this last year and trying to find out if I’ve had a buck on camera in years past.

One in a million shot. Hit mid body up and down. Went in just in front of diaphragm, lung side, then went thru diaphragm for 4 inches, then back thru it again and exited on lung side again. Completely missed lungs that I could see and just barely hit a piece of liver. Didn't think it was possible to thread a needle like that.

It’s possible, hard to say for sure tho. Hope ya find his sheds! Those would be a great find, I’m transitioning into shed hunting/scouting now.

That definitely could happen in 2 years. Once a buck gets in that 5 - 6 year range, you will really see its true potential.

Well, I’m back on my tree. Again.

The mornings now are kinda like the movie Groundhog Day but instead of waking up to “I Got You Babe” my hunting alarm is “Anchors Aweigh”.
