Oh yeah. I was out the last couple of days. Shot a buck last night at about 4:30 pm. Hit it in the brisket. Blood trailed it almost 300 yards before we gave up. Marked last blood at about 8:00 at night and went back this morning with my beagle Elly May. We tracked for almost 3/4 of a mile before I called her off. Im pretty demoralized right now and trying to figure out if I even want to go to Arkansas Thursday as planned or just hang it up for the year.
nah cannot be done, gotta end the season on a good tasting note. You know you’d be kicking yourself if you let that be the end.
I know, I know. Yesterday was a rough day. I can’t believe I blew it on only the second shot I’ve had all season at a buck. I will spend the next two days taking it easy and getting my gear ready and I’ll head to Arkansas Thursday morning. Anyone heard anything out of Fletch?
I’m taking @fletch920 and his silence as he is elbow deep gutting or tracking a giant…..fingers crossed…..
The month of January is a doe only in the state of Nebraska That said , my cameras show does only Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Well guys I got sidelined this past weekend due to a sinus infection. Soooooooo I took the time and did get prepped for this upcoming weekend. Have a ground blind set out over a turnip/radish plot that the does have been hammering as of late. Hoping to punch that last weekend tag here in Wisconsin, and to make Ty proud
Until then you're basically an anti-hinge cutting forester recommending close canopy woodlots for deer hunting properties LOL
I will. I just got a little down yesterday. I’m back in the same tree right now. I don’t expect to see anything with the way we disturbed the area but I might as well give it one more try.
Damn sorry to hear Chief, it sucks but things do happen. My season ended the night I shot that last doe, I couldn’t find any sort of motivation to get out again after that and I think the biggest factor was the absolutely horrible warm weather we had. But with that said it’s back to OT at work and I’d much rather be hunting lol. I see 150pts coming in the next week or so (doe lives don’t matter, kill them all)! I just finished carrying up enough firewood for the wife while I’m gone to Arkansas. I also got a lot of kindling split and cut some of the wood into smaller pieces for her. Now I need to get everything washed, packed and loaded for about a 7:00 am departure.
Good luck LC I’ve been sick the last four days. This is the first day I’ve felt like doing much. The sad part is I was supposed to go ice fishing Saturday and Monday and had to cancel. Of course they caught a lot of fish.
I wish! Honestly, I have had my hands full the last several weeks. At 5pm last night, I officially signed documents and sold my Insurance Agency. Working through the details with attorney's and CPA's and the other party has kept me more than busy and out of the woods. I will now start my Investment Advisory business and be much more flexible with time going forward. I still have every intention of getting a doe for the team and hope to make that happen tomorrow or Saturday as the weather warms above single digits. A buck at this point will be long odds, but I will shoot nearly any buck that gives me the opportunity. The only thing I will pass at this point is a young stud with huge potential. On a side note, I did go ice fishing after dark the other evening with my oldest son and caught my first Rainbow trout ever. I look forward to doing a lot more of that also. Happy New Year to all of you and best of luck!
Congrats on the sale man! You'll love the flexible time no doubt, perhaps more time to pull trout through the ice no doubt!
I made it to the cabin at Wattensaw WMA in Arkansas. I drove through some snow to get here but there is no snow at all here. I’ll get out on stand about 2:30 and we will see what happens.
