Johnny congrats on three more deer for your freezer! Gets me tired thinking of butchering three deer. Good job getting it done.
I’m home and we’re processing them now. I’m not finished with the Kentucky slaughter yet though. I am going to go back tomorrow or Saturday morning. If I get pressed for time I’ll just vacuum seal entire quarters, freeze them and then thaw them later and process them. I’ve done it once before on a hunting trip to Ohio. I had to freeze the deer there, bring it home and then process them.
Around here they are the first people to trespass on everyone's land for both hunting and fishing. It may differ by area, but ours are not to be trusted for any reason. They have made a cottage industry of poaching whitetails with rifles and selling the big racks. They hire van drivers to drop off groups of guys in the spring to walk entire sections and steal sheds that they also sell by the pound. Mark me down as someone that has no time for the Amish. Ours have no respect for laws whatsoever and I have no respect for them.
Oh there are groups and individuals of them (especially the younger ones) that are the trespass kings in pockets...would never say "they" meaning the whole of them are without pretty massive pieces of crap in them. Same as any group.
Not too mention @fletch920 there is for certain areas depending on the "church" leaders than can definitely make that number of POSs be a much higher concentration...sadly sounds like you have one such area.
Busy afternoon. All that’s left is grinding I got in a little too much of a hurry. The boning knife slipped and sliced the wrinkled skin right off that knuckle. That’s going to be an annoyance the next week or so.
I think today was probably the most miserable sit I've had in years, which is really strange because it just wasn't that cold. I woke up to rain this morning so I slept in. The rain stopped for a while at 9:00 am so I got dressed, grabbed my tree umbrella and headed out. I sat in the rain from 9:30 am until about 3:00 pm when the rain stopped. Then I sat until 5:05. All I saw the entire 7 1/2 hours were squirrels. Shortly after I got set up I knew I needed to move so I did. In the process I banged my fresh wound on my left middle finger a few times and of course it started bleeding again so I have a bloody left wool glove now. It was the cold, damp north wind that really kicked my butt today. I was severely underdressed from the waist down and my feet froze in the rubber boots I was wearing. I also forgot to put on my extra wool bottom layer. I dressed based on the temp at the time. I didn't know the temperature was going to drop all day. My heated vest just couldn't make up for all of the other areas on me that were cold. By the time I rode the bike back to the truck my fingers were numb because my gloves got wet taking the umbrella down, my toes were almost numb and I was shivering. Funny thing is when I got down the wind chill had just hit 32 degrees. It's almost 8:00 now, it's 71 degrees in the camper and I'm still cold. I very much prefer overdressing. I'll try again in the morning, and I will be dressed for it.
Saw nothing It was a 96% full moon & I was thinking the movement would be slow…and it was Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Yep. Probably why I saw nothing but squirrels today. If tomorrow isn't any better I'm going to tow my camper home Monday morning. I really wanted to take at least 4 deer here in Kentucky this trip but if I have to settle for 3 then that's okay. Maybe it's just the fatigue from today's sit but right now I'm very close to not caring at all.
Hey Ty, a thought just occurred to me. Your euro guy is heading to Kentucky. I'm here already. Just have him bring it with him. I'll pick it up and score it for you.
Yesterday my son-in-law and son and my 12-year-old granddaughter went ice fishing. When we got there it was -11°. We Waited for the sun to hit us before we got out of the truck. It was -2 then. We got into the 20’s before we left. We are also dressed for it. We got around 30 fish most all of them or in the slot limit. We have two good size reservoirs here and if the trout are in between 15 to 22 inches you have to let them go. We didn’t catch anything over 22 but we caught three that were 14 inches. Good luck littleChief and Brett. Hope things come together for you guys.
That's a great day! Good for you for spending time with your family. That's what it's all about. We don't have any trout near where I live, but I Fall stocked 100 Rainbows in my new pond in late October. It will be a put and take type deal because our water will get too warm for much chance of survival by July next Summer. But for now, we can open water fish them and hope to ice fish for them later. They were all 1/2 to 3/4 of a pound. I thought it would be a fun way to get to fish the new pond right away and be something very different for our area. My friends are all really excited for ice so we can get after them. My son's and I plan to open water fish with small spinners over Christmas.
Ugh....everytime I see a thread alert with Fletch being the poster....I keep hoping to see a mature late season buck...... LOL
