So last night and I went and was looking at new bows, didn't need one but I tend to shoot a bunch of bows, and while I was looking at a helix someone came and traded their PSE Carbon Mach 1 and I ended up picking it up. I got it at a super reasonable price and really enjoy how it shoots. Tomorrow I'm going to take it out and hopefully help add some points to the board.
Oklahoma bow season lasts until January 15 and Arkansas lasts till February 28. I have a buck tag left for each state, 3 doe tags for Arkansas and 4 in Oklahoma. I'll still be doing as much hunting as I can. Sent from my SM-G960U using Tapatalk

Pictures didn't load when I edited my post. This is fourth deer she has harvested but first one hunting a stand by herself. I was setting in the other corner of the field. Five does entered the field on her end. I watched the whole thing unfold from my stand. Yahilyn took her time and made a perfect shot with her 6.5 creedmore. Dropped her in her tracks at 50 yards. I didn't get any pictures of my loading contraption in action but my trail cam caught us driving out. Sent from my SM-G960U using Tapatalk
Well, I have had an interesting weekend. I spent all day yesterday and this afternoon at The MIL’s house cleaning up the property. I filled a 10 yard dumpster in about 10 hours of work. On the drive out there, we passed a road killed 8 point, probably 90-100”. One I would have shot if I had been bowhunting public land. It had only been dead a couple hours and wasn’t stiff yet. Temps were in the low 40s so meat was good on the front legs, backstraps, and neck. Back legs were worthless since that is where the impact was. I will butcher the meat tonight after dinner. Roadkill salvage is completely legal in Arkansas to my knowledge. I did a few internet searches and tried to find something in the regs about possibly needing a salvage tag, couldn’t find anything requiring it. The right antler was broken off, Iam going to turn the antlers into rattling antlers. The set I have been using are sheds my FIL found before he passed. There were three of those, so I gave one to each of my boys to put in rooms.
Have you already skinned it? I wouldn't trust not being stiff, unless it was still warm body temp, as rigor mortis will set in and then release after a few hours. If still good I'd bet a roast or two could be salvaged from rear quarters. The way blood collects in pockets in deer actually saves some meat. Definitely give it the smell test. Hope it's indeed salvageable, doesn't get easier than that aside from someone else butchering it for you
I was definitely still fresh and I didn’t take any chances keeping meat that looked bad. Blood was still warm in the body cavity once I started skinning it.
My best bud got a good one with his rifle this morning. He's been chasing him for a few years now. Scored 141"
So I’m on the struggle bus mentally. I’ve had the in-laws at my house all weekend so no hunting until they leave tomorrow, we only see them once a year. Sunday morning I woke up and checked my Tactacam app to see what pics my trail cams got overnight. This is what I saw on one of my spots…
I don’t know who this is but I know that the neighbors gun hunt basically right on the property line. I’m sure they shot this buck sitting in their blind that is literally 20ft off of the property line and then had no issues trespassing to retrieve it when it just happened to die in front of my camera. They at least drug the buck across the fence before gutting it.
I can’t tell exactly what buck it was but I know it’s a damn good one. There’s nothing I can really do about it and they have the right to set up where ever they want on their property but man, it has really taken some of the wind out of my sails. I wish I wouldn’t have gotten those pics and I’m just praying that it wasn’t the big one I’ve been after. I think it is this guy because it appears the buck is missing his right brow tine.
That's pretty crazy! If you have a somewhat decent relationship with them, I'd send a congratulations text along with, "Let me know if anything you shoot goes onto my side, I'll help you look." Or something along those lines. And then send them the trail camera pictures so they know you keep your place well monitored.
That’s solid advice, problem is I don’t have a relationship with them at all. If I did, I wouldn’t have a problem with them jumping the fence to retrieve a deer shot on their side, like you said, I would probably offer to help. The landowner owns the entire section to the north along with a bunch of other land around the area. I’m guessing it is some relatives but I’m not sure. I don’t own or lease the ground I’m hunting but the only time I’ve ever seen someone over there is during rifle season and they are in and out so I haven’t gotten a chance to talk with them. I pulled my cam and will be moving my stand to another part of the 160 acres I can hunt so I don’t have to mess with it. I am going to buy some no trespassing signs and hang them up on that fence line though.
