I had some encounters with him last year. Almost snort wheezed him off a hot doe. Had im cross one trail over than one i was set up on another time so he was about 50yds and he was moving quick, which i wont shoot past 40. I went to this area to hunt him specifically. Not exclusively though. I was walking back to canoe in the dark and tried to take a short cut. Looked down in shindeep mud i was in and there he was. Body was in mud where water receded and head was on bank in the grass.
Any chance he could have gotten stuck trying to cross? I haven't foumd but one dead head buck, he was at top of the creek well away from the water, I assumed EHD but nevee certain. Figured he was headed to water but never made it. Situation like yours, he could have also been in the water trying to cool down, and however long later you find him when water is low. Even in death they remain a mystery
Who knows lol. I will re visit the site when im in that area again. Not making a special trip. Not during season anyhow. Will look for broken ribs or other injury as his whole skeleton is there. I did glance around for an arrow but didnt see one in the dark anyway.
Will be going local tomorrow AM then coming home to pack for shotgun. Heading to bowhunt public Thursday morning on way down to deer camp for firearms season. See all you AM killers in the morning. Night night!
I should say that the last 30 minutes of the sit this afternoon I had does coming in from three different directions and I could have shot any of a number of them but I’m not going to burn my gun tag on a doe. I was pinned in my tree for an extra half hour but I managed to get down and out without bumping any of them. The only reason I took my 45-70 this afternoon was I just didn’t feel up to a track job, and I’ve never needed help finding a deer I’ve shot with that gun. I’m not going back out until Thursday morning and I will not take the gun again here in Missouri. I’m going bow only and buck only for the rest of gun season here in Missouri, especially since I can only kill one deer during gun season.
I've been seeing a particular fox on every hunt at one particular property. Tonight, like every other, he came under my treestand and peed as per the usual. Then, ten minutes later, he chased a deer past me. I was surprised, as I didn't think a deer would be afraid of a fox. Anyone else ever seen this?
My tinnitus is so bad I hear tree frogs and crickets on stand in the middle of December. Sitting in the dark awaiting the sun, I know the woods are still and quiet, but I can hear the sounds of summer just the same. Annoying, yet it is what it is and learn to ignore it.
I'm up. Confidence is low this morning. 60 and a S wind. The afternoon doesn't look bad. Good luck all! Sent from my SM-G781V using Tapatalk
Same thing here. Weather definitely looks better from here on through next week. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Good luck AM. I have too much to do to get ready for weekend. I figure tomorrow morning looks better to me than this morning to be in a tree so i will get packed today and hunt tomorrow.
Change in plans...no hot water. Went to the basement to investigate and the water heater is leaking and not working. I knew it was about time to replace it but have been putting it off. It's a damn power vent...this just turned into an expensive morning Sent from my SM-G781V using Tapatalk
I've got my grandson out here with the boom stick this morning. I'd sure be thrilled if he got a shot today Sent from my SM-N950U using Tapatalk
