Yes, the bear tags sold out in the first five minutes...there were 55 for that unit. You need to be fast and ready to go!

I saw a monster buck this morning...I really thought he would have been out of his antlers by now. Have a look (not the best photo but it was early and the lighting wasn't the best.)

    Dave,

I think someone else thought the same thing as you. Did you notice the huge straight line gash on the buck's back? I am spectulating here (hope I'm wrong) but I think that's the handy work of a poacher's bullet. Our season's have been closed for a while now. I cannot image anything that would cause a straight "angled up" slash like that this time of year. I pray this bruiser drops his antlers sooner than later.

Nice buck Will! I'm building points in CO for elk and mulies right now and one of these years I'll go after a muley.

GMMAT, here is an aspen stand I walked thru elk hunting a few years ago. Didn't want to leave!!

    Will,
    That is a DANDY of a Mulie...Dang...

    ironranger,
That aspen shot...the way that light is shining through...I would almost be afraid that my number was just called:)

I'm actually glad we got 7+ months until this trip...I'm afraid I'm going to have some serious Elk/Mountain hangover/withdrawal when it's all over...I just love this anticipation!

I probably have 6GB worth of cards for my canon.

    Not sure that's enough.

    Keep the photos coming, guys.

Will, just out of interest how far from you was that buck, bow range?

I really cannot decide either Bear or Mulie tag  (can bear tags be bought over the website or are they only over the counter? That could be the deciding factor!)

Bear tags haven't gone "on sale" yet. I think it will be around the end of August or first part of September, if I remember correctly. As soon as they go on sale you need to be on the phone with the CODOW to try to get a tag.
I might put in for a mulie tag this year if my funds hold out.

Wow , that looks tastey ( do you marinade first or just keep original flavor ) . Hope you're gonna save some of that meat for camp ;)

Actually, this time I did use a marinade. They came out pretty darn good!

I'll see what I can do about bringing some to camp. The freezer might be getting low by Sept.

    Will,
Are any additional permits required to be able to hunt these National Forests and Wilderness Areas?
I know proof of hunter education is needed to purchase license...just curious if anything else will be required...

    Matt,
Unless something has changed from last year, you just need your Hunters' Safety Card, not permits or anything need to hunt the National Forest/Wilderness areas. They do require ATV registration out there if you intended on the use of an ATV, and NO WHEELS are permitted inside the wilderness areas, but otherwise, you just need the Hunters' Safety card.

I've got my hunters education but I have no Idea where In the hell It Is or what my number Is. I've never had to use It before buying an out of state license. What's a guy do to find that? I wonder If there's some where I could call that would have my number on record? I better get on this quick!!

    Steve,
Contact your state DNR...here in IL there is even a link on the website to request a reissued card to be mailed to you...good luck!
