Seems pretty slow around my parts. Not getting much on camera. No Does, no small bucks, or big bucks...just not really showing up. Now, acorns where i hunt are not on the ground this year, it's been abnormally humid and pretty warm. Been dry as well. Not very many scrapes, rubs, dropings, or tracks. Trails are obscure at best. We have a lot of cutovers, anywhere from 3 yrs old to about 10. then mostly mature pines. some decent sized swamps and limited oaks. My usual go to places are suspect.. maybe the cooler weather coming after this week will kick things up.. at this point, I just want to shoot a nice doe. I ain't even thinking about a big buck.
On a serious note, there has been a drop off of mature bucks and deer movement as a whole on my cameras in the transition areas and field edges until night. I think a lot of it has to do with the high temps here in SW Pa, deer not wanting to travel much with winter coat on. There also out or about out of their early season/summer patterns. If you know where they bed take the game to them, hopefully the cooler temps will get em more active for you! There getting ready for the big dance!
they can damn neare bed on the entire 7k acres I hunt, Seriously, it's all timber company and about 60 % thick cutover and then big mature pines with control burn areas and thick undergrowth. It is really impossible to try and pin point because they rarely seem to bed in the same place more than a day or two.
That’s tough, I would just try to pick smaller sections apart with different winds. Try cutting them off to the food source, seems like a lot of people are having great acorn drops this year. In the past I was hunting green fields/plots and was disappointed in the deer movement and I made a shift to a different food source and was covered in deer, just try and find what there eating right now and hunt that. Seems like it can change on a dime.
I have no idea what they are eating other than just browsing.. acorns didn't drop. Browsing deer in pine/cutovers are just plain tough to get on
due to work, heat/humidity and heavy rains I havnt been out yet ..... been on 12's/7days, now back to 8's/7days, havnt had a day off in 2.5 months... worked 155 days straight last year Due to the Wuhan virus, never got back out to a tree from Dec. 5th on ... sucked !!... OT is good however.. ...maybe next weekend or Friday once it cools down ... can only do AM hunts due to damn work then ... I dont like AM hunts in early Oct. .... hell, I may even lose my first 9 day vacation due to personel shortage .... maybe Vac. 2 in Nov. IF I can get a person for the swing shift, if not, I'm F'd ... all Bidens fault .. FU Joe ...
My farm is very slow as well. This is not normal for me. Usually i have a few decent bucks around by now. It is just way to hot and humid. At least that's what i tell myself.
Been hunting this club for 12 years and although it's always been very chelleging, the past 3 years has been extreme. I think it is time to find something a little more conducive for bowhunting
I guarantee this weather is putting a damper on deer movement. Imagine wearing your winter coat when it's 80 degrees and super humid out. You wouldn't want to move much either. Once this heat and humidity starts to break, we'll see some deer on their feet and moving around more. Just have to be patient.
I agree. It's just like bass fishing and waiting for water temps to warm up to get the fish to pull up and feed!

I get them not moving in the day time, but I would have expected more at night. But I don't get many pics of any deer even then. Now the night time lows have been like mid to upper 60s which is still warm and it has still been humid at night. Cooler weather will be here next week. That will be the tell tale
