looks like my season will start next weekend, mostly a take the camper up north, clean it out, and scout/get set up with maybe 3 sits (Saturday AM/PM and Sunday AM.)

Oh, this is MI where I will be lucky to see a 130 all season. Does on the menu, though.

That pic I just posted was my WI area near where Junior hunts.

yeah, he's a cool buck. Got some weird inside points that are basically split beams. On the one side it's just a point, but the other side is a baby arm complete with fingers.

Heading out tomorrow through Monday. Sikas are starting to rut. They are like mini elk. So much fun to hunt and they have so many more vocalizations than deer.

I decided not to hunt this weekend. Just too hot and humid for my liking. Took the boat out Sunday morning and fished for a few hours before we got rained on and decided to call it a season. They were biting pretty good and we probably should have just rode it out and kept fishing, but my couch and some coffee were calling my name.

It looks like the weather is finally going to start cooperating near the end of this week. I'm probably going to take my son out of school a little early so we can head West to our lease. The current plan is to hunt Friday night and Saturday morning depending on his baseball schedule. Last weekend of games, finally!

How far you have to drive? Is it something you can drive to/from and hunt same day or do you guys stay overnights? Always been curious with your lease situation (note that I said situation, not location.)

I have two properties close to home - both within 20 minutes of the house. And they both suck. My good spot is out in Jo Daviess County, and it's about 2 hrs 20 minutes door to door from my house. I can be there in just under 2 hours if I leave straight from the office. I've done plenty of trips out and then back the same day, but I prefer not to if I can avoid it. Nothing like 5 hours of driving for 3 hours of hunting. Thankfully a friend of mine has a place out there and he lets us crash overnight if we need to. So we'll probably do that on Friday night. Grab a pizza from Casey's and watch Open Season. That's our "tradition."

I hear that. My closest spot in MI is about 80 minutes away to the parking lot and that is pretty much my limit on a there and back/same day trip.

The only nice thing about the long drive is it gives me more time to listen to podcasts. Otherwise, it takes me a week to get through one 3 hour podcast with my 20-minute commute to and from the office.

Is that where Willard is at? Mike is a guy I've always wished to meet and just shoot the deer hunting crap with.

Mike and I share 2 of the 3 properties that I hunt. One close to home and one out West. Although he spends more time on public these days than on our lease.

We just went fishing together on Sunday morning before we got rained out.

I have heard of people listening at 1.5 speed, but I think if I am listening to a podcast there's a lot to be lost in doing that, you lose nuance and the thought process as people deliberate their way through a conversation.

If I listened to every podcast I wanted to, I would never have time to do anything else. Really need to budget that wisely.

You pick up on the subtle pauses... I listen to podcasts at 2x. Built up to it over the years...
