I went out on the 2nd. I attempted a morning hunt on some public here in IL. When I finally got there and signed in I realized that I had forgotten my jacket on the coat rack. So... the morning was shot. I made it out for the afternoon after a rain. It was about 80* and humid at this point. Rained again and got even more humid. Absolutely miserable. A 40 minute walk to where I wanted to sit left me soaked (rain and sweat) and definitely reeking of human scent. Absolutely the worst sit I've ever experienced. Mosquitoes were out of control. It has not been a weather friendly opener up here either.

I took A.J.for a walk and you just wouldn't believe the number of files and bees out . It would have to be an absolute monster to get me out. That said I will do just afternoon hunts until weather changes.
    BTW
A.J.Helped me pick up a bunch of info today. The neighbors dog came out to play. So with permission I released him In their yard and the two played for an hour. A. J. Took the neighbor out and his dog nearly took me out. They hopped in the pond and swam a bit while we talked. So apparently way more buck and good ones in the area than I knew. He has cams out. So I have hope for a chance at something.

I feel like if captain Kirk were here, he would be saying to me: "Spock, are you out of your Vulcan mind?!" 80 muggy degrees, swarms of mosquitoes, and I'm sweatin like a pig! But I'm out here! We'll see what happens, if I don't lose all my blood first.

One ridge over from yesterday. Much better sign but tight shot windows. 500 grain arrows for the win.

On the ground I hunt there are pine and oak plantings, it's a research forest for Purdue university. The deer don't seem to spend much time in the pines but they do transition through there between feeding and bedding. It's near impossible to hunt from a stand in there because if you get too high, you can't see through the canopy. So I spent the afternoon putting up a ground blind and cutting shooting lanes. I was able to position it so that I have a 30yd shot to their main travel route and about a 40yd shot if they just wander randomly. I'll have to let it cool down for a few days but I have high hopes for it.

Yes, I do all the time. I'm semi retired but where my wife works, just like everyone else, they are short of help. Soooooo she ends up working 12-14 hour days about 4 times a week. I will say I do all the housework and most everything else but I still feel guilty when I'm sitting in a tree, enjoying myself but she's slaving away at work. But other than what I'm doing, I don't know how I could help her any further. I've told her she can quit bit she doesn't want to.

I do for sure. My wife works full-time and I'm a full-time student for the past 5 years. I receive a good chunk of change from the GI Bill, and my schooling is covered by the VA. My wife and I agreed that I should concentrate on school, seeing as I receive enough money from the GI Bill to cover the mortgage and to not work part-time or full-time. I feel guilty many mornings going out hunting as much as I do. I do 85% of the household chores, laundry, cooking, cleaning, and the typical man stuff outside. I have a 3.84 GPA and uphold my end of the bargain, but I do feel guilty, especially when she has a rough day and I'm out in a tree.

Well I'm out in a tree along a cornfield.

It's just across the road from my house but I'm still sweating like a pig. Was here on Saturday afternoon and saw 6 bucks chasing a doe.

    Nothing this mornings hunt 16336411247769136507027116729084.jpg

75 degrees when I got in the stand at 4:00. I almost didn't want to come but it's only the second opportunity I've had so far this season. Hopefully it's worth the sweat it took to get in here. Nothing real big on camera yet but I'd be thrilled with a big doe tonight.
