Yeah, sorry to hear about your girl. Thankfully I don't have to worry about that for another 11 years, though people tell me it'll go quick, to which I'm agreeing more and more every day.

Got out this evening, saw a single doe, but wouldn’t you know she came in down wind and busted.

It does go fast. I can’t believe that in January it’s gonna be just my wife and I in the house. Both kids in college!!

We gotta get some updates from some of our other team members!!!

Can we get a quick roll call from the group?

    1. Have you been hunting? Why or why not?

Only once - opening morning. Picking my spots this year I’ve had time but it hasn’t been worth the pressure.

    2. When do anticipate (date specific) that you will kill a doe?

Man… Next weekend would be perfect. I hope to get it done next weekend. But if nothing then - probably going to wait until later in the season.

    3. How are weather conditions for you so far on a scale of 1 to 10?

3.5 or so… It’s been warm. Wind has been pretty non existent. Leaves are already crunchy and on the ground. I don’t know it just hasn’t been ideal but I’m a bit fair weather. Lol

    4. Chances you kill a buck are High, Medium or Low?

Medium to High. I’m not holding out for a specific buck so I’m not in a really picky mindset. Honestly, if I can get a buck that pushes 135 on a field judge he’s getting an arrow!

I want to hear from the entire squad if possible - what you guys have going on?! @justinwmoe88 @Stickman @fishsoft92

    1. I've hunted 4 sits so far, got busted by a for I was trying to draw on Friday evening by one or potentially both of the things she had with her.

    2. I'm going to get a shot on one Thursday evening though I'm trying an area I hunted for the first time ever on the 26th when it was virtually dead calm/quiet and 86° and only heard one deer blowing at something from 100+ yards away.

    3. Weather 2-3 rating: has been hot for September and into October, lots of upper 70s and 80's. Cold front coming through Saturday evening with 10-15° temp drop into Sunday For high temps so I'm hopeful I'll get an opportunity on one of my two target bucks that morning. I even had a dream about one of them last night!

    4. I'm not willing to speculate on my chances of shooting a buck but I'm trying to be more thoughtful of pressuring my private spots this year and the camera data seems to show that I'm doing the right things. Lots more daylight pics/videos of my two target bucks than in previous years.
I've already passed two 1.5 year old bucks on the opener.

Sneaking out in the morning at my house again. With a crappy wind I don't expect much with bone. But I'm trying to hold off on my farm until it gets colder

    1. No, I’ve been waiting on cooler weather that lines up with the boys sports schedules
    2. By the end of the October, hopefully.
    3. 10 being the best, it’s been a 2. I still have over 3 weeks of vacation to use too.

    Got another!!
Been out for three Sits and putting I’m down. Only 3rd day of out season. Weathers been a little warm but opening morning was great. I’m gonna take a few days off and get everything processed I have here and hit it hard Saturday morning. Building confidence for mr buck when he reveals himself. One more doe tag and a buck yet.

    1. I sat a total of 3 times. I haven't hunted since I harvested my buck but have been doing other related hunting things. Peeing in mock scrapes, checking cams, attractants for my farm that doesn't have any crops in the ground etc....

    2. Going to shoot a doe later in the month once it cools off. Still really warm here. 100% probability if I can escape work.

    3. Hot September and warmer then expected early October. Cooling off at night so that is good. Rating: 5

    4. High, like 100% :)

I’ve only sit once, it’s been warm, low 80s. My best opportunity is going to be when I go to Ohio end of month, just hope they don’t cut the corn.

As dry as it’s been in the Midwest I can’t imagine much corn being in the fields come say Nov. 5ish. Maybe parts of Ohio haven’t been as dry as here in west central Indiana but can’t be that much of a difference.

My lease bean fields are out - 20+ days ahead of schedule and these guys are consistent on when they harvest these fields.

It's crazy the geo difference. We are saturated over here to the point of green still on corn

That is nuts. Only recently have we seen any measurable rain. The lake my parents live on was over two feet low. People were having to get their boats hoisted of their lifts because the water wasn't high enough to float the boats off normally.
I was talking to the property owners of one of my spots and he mentioned that most of the corn in our area is likely to be harvested way late similar to two years when we were so wet that they simply couldn't get into the fields. This year however, everything is so dry the farmers need the grain to acquire more moisture in order to not be penalized at the drop off sites for insufficient quality grain. I'm hoping that holds at least through October so I can get a couple of quality sits at my spot with my two shooters. The first of which will be Sunday a.m.

In the past the corn has been cut plus or minus a week around Nov. 1st.

Corn is out today at noon. I am in the stand maybe Friday evening on one farm. Saturday for sure on the other farm. Winds should be good. Temps a little high, but ok for morning sits.

That is crazy... I can't find a field with green corn within 2 hours of here I can almost guarantee it. In fact - I am guessing farmers will be close to 90% done by months end.

Hunt #2 on the season coming tonight...

I've got a creek setup really close to good bedding that I think would be the ticket I just can't seem to get the right wind to go in and hunt it. I thought about doing a hang and hunt on the other side of the creek that would likely setup a little better for these anything east winds we keep getting. Thermals become a big issue with the creek + timber covered hills where I am set up it just blows everything into this bottom that's protected by a very steep grade timber.

So will likely play it safe.
