A hunting season’s prayer I penned awhile back. Dear Heavenly Father, I come to you on behalf of countless brothers and sisters which will (some even have already) taken to the woods and fields in pursuit of your incredible creation and the creatures which live in it. Many are known by others as mothers, fathers, sisters and brothers to countless family members…and it is this which gives us our first reason to pray. We pray that you keep us safe from the moment we place that first step on the dirt to start a hunt till that first step back into our homes. We pray you steady our steps, calm our nerves and watch over us should any of us ever leave the ground to climb a tree. Let us love our loved ones enough oh Lord to constantly wear our safety harnesses every second both our feet are off the ground...I pray we all find safety oh Lord. Dear Lord, no doubt there are many of us facing this season in many ways as a first. A first without a dear loved one. To some it was a father, a grandfather or mentor. However, the woods will be our escape, but also where our sorrow will be felt the most. Be with us Lord. Take this season for those attempting to move on and grant it one to heal, grow and find closure within. May the wind through the trees and the quietness of dawn speak to their hearts as their loved ones once did...I pray we find healing oh Lord. Your sons and daughters hitting the woods and fields oh Lord love your creation, and I ask that you bless their hunts each and every day. May we all take our moments watching your creation as a chance to build our appreciation of You, our loved ones and our ability to do so. Help us slow down and de-clutter our minds as only your creation can do, and return to our lives & jobs recharged and changed because of your creation...I pray we grow oh Lord. Now as only hunters know…highs and lows are sure to occur this season, we ask you Lord to be with us especially in the lows. Be there to calm our anger or frustration and remind us of just how small hunting is to our lives in the grand picture of our lives...I pray we have perspective oh Lord. I ask that you be with our discernment as sportsman oh Lord. Be with us as we are faced with choices. Choices which will mold the man or woman we are as hunters and as people. Help us refuse to take those ill-advised or illegal shot opportunities. Keep us from any and all illegal tactics or approaches as well; no matter how great the temptation may be or how big the buck is. Help us, your sons and daughters, to protect the integrity of this great sport by being representatives of You and our hunting brethren this season...I pray we have integrity oh Lord. If an arrow or bullet shall leave our weapon of choice ohLord I pray that you be with each. I pray they fly true and on target or that we miss entirely…but if they should find their mark I pray that your creation finds a swift expiration and recovery always occurs. I pray we are accurate oh Lord. This “hobby” to some is a passion to many of us, which words fail to describe oh Lord. I just ask that you use this season to talk to us more, change us more and allow us to remember this entire thing is a blessing from you. I pray we never forget all of this oh Lord. In Your heavenly name, Amen
Amen. May everyone have a safe and successful season. Enjoy traditions and passing on of knowledge to the next generation. Thanks for posting this.
