ha! All in good fun! Jake actually sees deer when he hunts, I do not. He's seen more deer already this year than I will in an entire season.
All I can do is laugh. I said earlier that I pulled my stand and planned on hunting my property on this side of the road because I have a much better chance of recovery when I’m by myself. I knew what tree I would get in. It’s only 70 yards from the house. I actually ended up deciding not to hunt this afternoon and tomorrow morning, so I was watching TV and the dogs started barking about 6:30. My thermal imager was right here on the charger so I grabbed it and walked outside. I scanned and sure enough there were three deer about 50 yards away from me almost directly between me and the tree I’d have been in. It’s like these deer are reading my mind. I swear they know when I’m not going to shoot them or I’m not going to be there.
PSA I recommend bringing your target with you to your hunting destination and sending a few arrows down range before venturing fourth into the wilderness. Upon getting to my destination this afternoon, I did just that as I normally do. First one hit my target in the 9 ring, but I thought I hard a strange 'tick', nocked another and loosed the next one only to see it short hop the target by 5 feet... From 26 yards, a normal chip shot. I went and collected my two practice tip broad headed arrows. Walked back to the yardage, and sent another couple, short hopped the next two and finally noticed that my arrow rest wasn't raising as it should. The spring in my drop away rest broke and thus ended my hunt before it even got started. You could look at it as though the one that would have counted would have been a solid strike, but better to find that out before being in the heat of battle. With my luck it would have broken when I had the buck of a lifetime at 20 yards and I would have missed and watched a monster trot off laughing at me. TLDR Always check your gear to make sure everything is in good working order before hunting! Things break for no reason (as in my arrow rest spring). Sent from my SM-N975U using Tapatalk
That's a great point noodles, I wouldn't have thought about it that way. It's a good thing I decided against trading up to the new bow today and just had him put a new rest on. Now I can keep this one and buy a new one in a year or two and keep my Creed XS. It's not likely that I'll be taking any trips in the relatively near future, but I'll definitely keep that in mind.
