I struggle getting broad heads out of bag targets. Do you push them on through then unscrew the head?

It could have been the effect of the indoor range or the fact that I was shooting the 150XL or even a exaggeration of the impact but they were noticably louder In Venatione Veritas
I shot a doe with the 125XL tonight... and I was thoroughly disappointed. I could not find any blood in the beginning and had to just tromp around to pick up a trail. There were three drops alongside the arrow and that was it. She did eventually bleed more after 60-70 yards and went 150 total. She was facing right, 25* angle, slight quartering away. Full pass through. After the shot, in that split second that you remember, I felt good. A touch back but definitely lung. Entry Exit Gutting revealed I got one lung. I dunno. Maybe it was an anomaly... but its got me headed back to a mechanical.
I thought that as well, but was thinking maybe he slipped it in behind the nearside lung But on the purported 25* angle and point of exit, have no idea how he didn't get heart.
Having to use a fixed blade all my life here in Idaho I'm pretty used to not seeing a good blood trail sometimes until 40-75 yards out. I see that even with a rifle sometimes though. Looks like a great shot to me. Had to have went behind near side lung and have no idea how it missed the heart. Must've just barely squeaked by one side of it. Only one lung and down in 150 yards sounds like it made her bleed pretty good to me.
I was wondering it that was a result of how that head is supposed to function- those scoops push tissue aside rather than cut it. A hard muscle like heart may have just gotten bruised rather than sliced.
I had that happen on a doe a couple of years ago. She went 700 yards before crossing a property line where I couldn't get permission to track. One lung and down in 150, sounds like the broadhead did its job on a less than perfect shot. I would take that.
For those of you saying "that's not that bad..." - I partially agree in the sense that it could have been worse. I am thankful to have recovered the deer. I also believe I could have grabbed a $5 no name fixed head, sharpened it up nice, and gotten the same result. I just no longer believe the hype that the head "acts" like a larger head and has all of this advertised cutting area. PM me. I have a handful of 125XLs and 100s. Shot a doe and a yote with them this morning. Blew through the yote like they were not there. The doe was quartering as hard as I ever would take a shot at 30 yards. I aimed at what I figured was top of the heart and missed my spot by maybe a inch. Slammed offside shoulder and stopped. I only shoot about 62 lbs 500 grain arrow. I did not think to take pictures of entrance wound but it was about the size you would expect. Every other boadhead I have shot the blades would have been ruined at least but this still looks brand new and is even still sharp. As a colorblind person I'm useless as a tracker so I like how the scoop should displace more of the soft tissue doing more damage putting it down faster, even if the entrance holes are a bit small. I don't think the entrance was any smaller the old school muzzys make though. I am a fan. The doe didn't make it 40 yards. Didn't bother looking for blood for the obvious reason as its kind of a lost cause if it's not obvious, real hard work for me to find. In my experience with a entrance wound about 3" behind last rib center mass the blood trail would have been poor with about any broadhead. I have even had issues with mechanicals penetrating at angles like this one.
