Yeah clock on meat doesn't start until he expires, but idk know about leaving him all night. Tough call. Sent from my SM-G781V using Bowhunting.com Forums mobile app
Couple hours at the most. If you have a good mark on him, sneak in and hit him with the light from as far as possible. React accordingly
Another good point. Punched through the scapula, the scapula becomes the fulcrum of the arrow shaft. Each and every step throws that razor bladed end of the shaft to and fro, up and down until it is able to work its way out. Big difference between a single lung pass through and single lung shredder. Hard to armchair quarterback.
I’ve never waited on a deer overnight. I’ve never had the patience to so it’s easy for me to say wait for morning. That’s a great looking buck if that’s the one in the picture. Good luck Littlechief!
Hard to say, the buck i shot last year I got one lung and let him go overnight., thank god I did his neck was still flexible when I found him the next day at 9am. It was cooler temps, was early October. I have also went in too early and bumped deer, I would wait till first light tom LC.
I've only done that 2 times. Neither ended well. Yotes got both. I will take a nap and get up at midnight if I have to.
Not saying it was what happened, but rigor mortis doesn't last forever. After a few hours it lets up and you have a loosened up deer again.
I bet a cheeseburger that buck is dead where you last saw him. Gonna be a long night, but I would say ya get him. Sent from my SM-G781V using Bowhunting.com Forums mobile app
Sorry for the delay in answering. It’s been kinda nuts. It didn’t look good at all. Here’s a pic. Im going to wait until morning.
No shots fired, but it was a sweet night in the woods for opening day. Two doe, a small 1.5 year old basket 6 and probably a 2.5 year old basket 8, all within range! Just the wrong property to shoot a doe off of. I'm probably going to try to stitch together done grainy video of the 8pt and see about uploading it to YouTube and sharing the link. I'll see what I can put together. Sent from my SM-N975U using Tapatalk
Damn, yeah that doesn't look ideal at all. 5" is completely different when you think inside a deers cavity compared to the actual arrow. Hoping for better in the morning, seen worse end better too..
I hit an elk through the scapula and only one lung several years ago. Not a deer I realize, but my experience was two hours wasn’t long enough. Jumped him out of his bed. Got lucky and found him the next morning. I’d give him no less than 5 hours. Should be plenty if he’s bleeding well and meat should still be fine.
Best of luck Chief! With him not bolting as you walked towards him for the arrow is a really good sign. Long night for sure for you. Hang in there.
Good luck @LittleChief! I have dealt with two different one-lung hits; the one I let sit overnight was dead 100 yards from the shot. The one I tracked a couple hours later, I pushed and lost due to property boundaries. Let it at least six hours if temps don’t allow overnight.
