I am home for a day. The archery elk hunt ended yesterday. I still have a week for deer. The elk were really sounding off the last couple days though. If you have never heard elk up on the mountain when they’re in a rut it gets in your blood and never leaves. I only had a OTC archery elk tag which is a spike or cow. I did see a handful of bulls I got a picture of one for everybody. So after church tomorrow I’m going back up on the Mountain. Congrats LittleChief for putting the first points on the board.
Got a stand put up this afternoon. Man Im pretty excited about this spot. Multiple trails meet up about 15yds from it. Found a really fresh rub in the mix also, shaving still on the ground. If the wind is right opening day I will be there.
Tuesday temperature is forecasted to be 75 so I’m headed to stand #2 ( as of now) Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Come on Brett! Put a doe down so I can keep having fun with these youngsters on the smacktalk thread!
OK...I'm ready for fall. I washed my early season clothes and they've been hanging outside. More and more pictures are being posted of deer, I'm ready for a hoody and sunrise. 25Sep is opening day, wife decided to schedule a 3 doors down concert that evening for my birthday; I'm kind of excited about seeing them live. Son has double header soccer at 9&11, so maybe I'll have time Sunday to watch the squirrel races.
Technically I can start hunting Wednesday...not ready nor going to. I am taking some vacation time tomorrow to hit brassicas and plots with urea and fertilizer quick before rain set to occur tomorrow evening and over night. Will check only the cards along the trails.
I need to get out and do the same to my brassica plots! One of the most overlooked steps I feel for a lot out there.
You and Ty are better farmers than me! My brassica plot is a failure. Weeds took over. The plot still has a strip of winter rye and a strip of clover so that spot will still have deer. Sure wish the brassica was there, deer really flock to them after it freezes. Season starts Sat. I plan on hunting unless it's really hot or raining.
I have planted turnips this late and still had enough forage to attract deer. Especially if you fertilize and get some timely rains. I still have about 2.5 acres to put in. I have planted Buck Forage Oats as late as early October and had great results. I killed deer out of them in November. I planted a half acre plot to BFO one week ago and checked them last night. They were already up and some of them were pushing 3 inches tall. Don't give up yet on plots, they love the young tender stuff so you don't have to grow knee-high brasicas to attract deer.
I'm heading out this afternoon to cut the grass at the hunting spot, not the actual hunting area, but where the owner likes to camp/sit by the creek. I may take a quick little trip around the woods if I don't get to overheated or just glass the field a little while. I think it really just hit me that the season opens next weekend, it has come very quick.
Fellas, I just validated my iSportsman account for Ft. Campbell, I suppose I'll go hunt that a few times and see what I can get into. Best thing is that it's a 25min drive from work.
Our growing season is probably 10-14 days shorter here. I have couple bags of winter rye left, I'll take your advice and replant.
Have 3 stands I still need to get up with about 2 weeks till the opener. I know where I want them just have to get them there. Weekends are pretty full. I have a pig roast each of the next two Saturdays so I likely won’t get much accomplished except for some beverages. Friday is my wive and I anniversary luckily she is working in the morning maybe I can get 2 up before she gets out of work and we go out for dinner.
I towed my travel trailer home from Tennessee today. After I got home I went to my place across the road and put one of my climbers on a tree. Season opens here tomorrow but as luck would have it they are calling for AM thunderstorms. I think I’ll just sleep in and go out for the afternoon sit.
Nothing seen Everything I read today told me to stay home The weather told me differently None of the five cameras saw anything either Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
80 pages of post in this team thread already??? You guys blow up the forum earlier today with all your jaw slappin??? Bunch of keyboard warriors. LOL Hi ALL!!!
I happened to wake up at 3:15 this morning. I checked the weather and the forecast is clear so I’m going to be walking out the door in 10 minutes for the first Missouri sit. I’ll be in the same tree I shot Monica out of last season. I may shoot a doe in the mornings over there but not in the evenings. Here we go!
Go get em Chief! I just home Monday afternoon from bear camp. I did not have a rage but couldn’t pass up the camaraderie and a little time away from work. I definitely missed the UP. It was a great camp with even better people. Michigan has an early doe season this weekend and I may get out Sunday evening right behind the house for an hour or so sit if it’s not too hot. Im beyond ready to be in a stand! Here’s a few pictures from camp Sent from my iPhone using Bowhunting.com Forums
