Shoot-thru mesh...really? New Grounder 350, ton of room with giant windows. Would like to keep the mesh but not sure I trust it to not throw my shot off. Expandables? Fixed blades? Don’t do it?
All my blinds that have it. I peel the mesh back. not willing to chance a good deer on shooting through the mesh. All the mesh on mine are velcroed on, so its easy to remove and put back.
It would be a great idea to practice through it a few times if you're thinking about it. The mesh provides excellent cover and is supposedly designed to shoot through with a fixed blade. I suspect mechanical blades would be deployed by the mesh.
I've never done it and will never do it. Any windows that I'm shooting through I take the mesh off and toss it in the garbage where it belongs.
I shot a doe through mesh four years ago, last deer I killed from a ground blind. 21 yard shot, blew through the shoulder and cut her heart in half. I was shooting Slick Trick Magnums at the time. With a sharp, small cut on contact fixed blade, I wouldn't worry about it. I would not do that with a mechanical broadhead. There is a lot of things I would not do with a mechanical broadhead, like put them on an arrow and shoot them.
Are ya still daily driving a car from the '80s and only shooting a traditional bow, too? Maybe carving your own arrow heads from flint?
2000 Jeep Cherokee Classic with the 4.0 straight 6, 3" lift, 32" tires, and LED lights bars. I haven't gone trad yet. I build my own arrows, but not broadheads.
Don’t do it. Having said that, you should try it, because as most people find out when asking advice on hunting forums, you will hear lots of advice. Some correct, some not correct. So try it with your setup. I tried it. My advice in hunting situations is don’t do it.
I too just “had to try it”... Fixed blade broadhead, shooting at my 3d target from 20 yards, missed about 8 inches low. I personally won’t do it while hunting. Did have a buddy shoot a turkey through it with his 12 ga, which took care of having mesh on that window Sent from my iPhone using Bowhunting.com Forums
Yep, guns are a no-go through those mesh things. A buddy of mine had his son shoot a slug gun through one and it the mesh caught on fire. No bueno.
I just take the mesh off. If you're set on keeping it on, just set it up in your yard and shoot your broadhead thru it at a target and see how it performs.
You can tell a bow hunter didnt come up with that idea. Im surprised they even marketed it as “shoot through” . I could see a fixed blade not being too effected by it by why chance it. We spend all this time practicing making clean and clear shots and then go shoot through some fabric on purpose? No way.
Ditto, except I didn't throw it in the trash, I repurposed them as mesh pocket hangers under my hammock tarp for my watch, wallet, etc. I've never understood the thinking behind those - how many TV shows, YouTube videos, etc have we seen where a guy says, "Crap! My arrow hit a blade of grass and it diverted my arrow." Yet "someone" thought shooting thru mesh at point blank wouldn't affect arrow flight at all. LOL!
Don’t you think maybe cutting a slit through the mesh would solve that problem, providing you can expose your broad head through the other side without getting busted
