Hope you have cameras on them, always wanted to try getting a buck do hit 1 I built. Dave I cant send picture to you in DM, you are a serious Bear killer, my son's girlfriend is at college in NC, this bear looks young to me, but eating good, raiding trach cans, I think young because ears look big for head? 200lbs? What's your guessment?
I clawed some dirt away in front of one of my cams and pissed in it last week. Will do that in 2 other spots in the next week or so. You have cameras on them? If so can’t wait to see some pictures. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Jeff, yeah a younger Bear but damn fine table fare!! I have shot 60 Bear but have not shot a monster. I always say I want to but at the end of the season,I truly just want the meat. Yes, cams are overlooking the trees.
I started a couple scrape trees myself. While trimming around my field I left a couple of low branches that the deer had used from the previous year. When I trimmed the surrounding branches I removed too much weight and the limbs were not hanging low enough. I zip tied a heavy piece of limb to the branch and lowered it. Here is same tree from last year.
I did 3 mock scrape and licking branch setup also this past week.....So far I'm see a lot of deer using 2 out of 3 of them Sent from my SM-A205U1 using Tapatalk
Every year I say I'm going to do one of these, and I never get around to it. Maybe this is the year! Keep us posted on how they do.
Been doing them for m,any years. 20 maybe. I had never heard of anyone EVER doing it. Super fun watching bucks come out of bedding areas and totally zone in on the trees.
I put out a couple last year that use a vine. In the right spot it works great. This picture is from last night. A couple from last year. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I also just started trying out mock scrapes I used the Jeff Sturgis vine mock scrape set up on a apple tree on a field edge I set it up at 1030am. Around 6:30 that evening I had a small 4 using it since then over the coarse of a month I've had 4 different bucks using it even a fawn was checking it out pretty cool seeing nature work
I set one spot this past Friday afternoon at 430 and had does using it 2 hours later and my first buck showed up around 7 that evening
Even a long branch will work as long as you can tie it up into another branch it varies from set up to setup with length. Anything around 3/4 of a inch in diameter is strong and light enough to handle easily
I like oak. If you cut them while green, they usually keep leaves on through winter. Bucks really dig the noise dry leaves make while working the branch
