We have a few in our area. They have doubled the beat tags in the last five years. This is a bear that the government trapper got three weeks ago when I was up there. He has a couple more he is trying to trap. When they start killing the sheep they call the government trapper. I usually come across a bear or two every year. Ever so often a mountain lion also

Wish they would double the tags here. Takes 8 years to draw a tag in my zone. Way over populated, lots of crop damage. mostly corn fields.

Thanks! That tractor is definitely overkill for what I needed, but I figured it was time to spoil myself a bit. If I put 50 hours on it in a year, that would be a lot. lol I tilled 1.5 acres with it last evening in an hour and a half and have quite a bit more to do. I may wait for the next rain because the ground was very dry and hard and I really don't want to tear up my tiller. It seemed to do just fine, but I know it had to be working it pretty hard. It's a 6' King Cutter commercial and is all gear driven. It probably is made for that kind of abuse, but it makes me nervous.

I am so glad that we don't have to worry about bears or mountain lions. Heck, we don't even have any poisonous snakes in Iowa other than a very rare timber rattlesnake in some areas. In over 50 years of knocking around the woods, I have never seen one. We really have no worries when it comes to walking in the dark woods.

A dream and a nightmare are often the same with the only difference being who tells the story…me or my wife

I’m loaded up and taking off day to elk camp. Service is real spotty. I will try to report here and there. I don’t know how picky I will be with my mule deer though. So if I don’t shoot a big one don’t get too upset with me.

I do travel to hunt, but a trip all the way to Minnesota? Hmmmm. Actually, I’ve never had the chance to even try bear meat.

You mean “What is” the Orion Syndicate. Well, it’s simple. To quote my esteemed teammate @fletch920, we are:

Back in the day, I was pretty selfish with my own properties and very secretive. I sacrificed so much at the time to buy that first 125 acres that I wanted to keep it to myself. As time goes on and I have more properties to spread the pressure around, its actually more fun to take others and share. I have gotten to the the point that I really don't put any pressure on myself to kill big bucks anymore. My wife would probably kill me if I tried to hang one more in the house. lol. I just enjoy the time in the woods. That being said, I will do my best to kill a slob for our team this year so we can repeat! At times I really wish it was easier to have someone from out of state come hunt with me. But, I also know that the only reason we have some of the best big buck hunting in the world is because we restrict access and keep the pressure low.

A grouping of the brightest stars forming a constellation on the celestial sphere has formed. It is forever known as Team 12.

Individual stars will be available for purchase and you will receive an embossed certificate to prove your willingness to be a sack rider and claim to know this team.

As scores come in, prices will increase.

    That is all......

Dear lord, LC! I totally forgot about that post. lol. I can guarantee there was a very generous serving of Scotch involved.

I should just move to Iowa.

    I could.......

Nah, I kinda like it here. We don’t have the quality you have but what we lack in quality we make up for in quantity.

I have taken as many as 15 does in a season and as many as 4 from a single sit. One of the bucks on my wall was the 14th buck to walk past me on a hot doe trail and it was only 9:30am. I don't think you would be too starved for action. There is however a 60 day wait to be considered a resident, so you might want to hurry!

Actually, MO has its first bear season this year. Like Arkansas, it is a very limited quota hunt. Regs are in the link. I only know about this because started listening to a MO based podcast prior to hunting with you last year.
