My point was is that viruses, especially respiratory viruses have very predictable evolutionary arc- they start out really bad, infect and kill a lot of people fast, but then face an evolutionary dilemma - either kill a real big crapload of people quick and die out quickly; or they evolve to become a cyclical deal where it doesn't do much more than make you feel under the weather, but not bad enough to keep you bed ridden and quarantined. Viruses want you feeling well enough to mingle so they can infect other hosts. You can't mingle if you are really sick or, you know, dead.
