Wife is having a girls weekend at the Lakehouse next weekend so I have decided to go scout a new northwest Oklahoma WMA. It has been a month, scratch that, a year of Sundays since I've hunted public but I think a change of scenery will do me some good. Plus, I need a good hike and if the forecast holds out I'll be sweating plenty and that's not such a bad thing. Bought a kayak this last weekend, nothing special but after reading all the posts about access through kayaking I am now venturing down that path.
I have just started scouting a large piece of public property that is about a 1/2 hour from my house. The terrain is steep and thick with different stages of Pines,cut overs and hardwood creek bottoms. I will be heading up this evening to try to find some locations to put out a few cameras.
Covered a few miles yesterday on the public piece that is close to my home. Was able to find three camera locations with some decent sign coming from cut over into timber. I’ll give it a few weeks and go back and check the camera see if there’s any bucks showing up.
I found this rub while scouting in the urban hunt last weekend. The top of the rub is level with the top of my head. I am 5’8”. There was a loaded white oak about 40 yards from it. As far as I could tell, there wasn’t any hunting pressure in this spot.
