Remember the "rain caps" I put on my pop ups..Well that material is a heavy canvas type that is water proof. I'll be making my 2x2 frames and covering them with that material . Way cheaper than wood. I still have rubber roofing from a job years ago. Card board covered roof it amazingly snow load proof. Have that on two origin as l card board blinds 10 and 6 yr old ones.. base poles are the old goat gate and corner fence posts.
Just have the stairs and put the windows in. Had to go on a hunt for some of screws and misc stuff, a damn bear took it on a journey last night
Finished up the box blind today, still have to trim a few lanes and anchor it down. Happy with how it turned out.
It has always been a natural travel corridor on a ridge top. And It is on one of my clover plots, the only clover in the area. This is big woods area.
Mine are based on what can be hunted from an area and distance. I can not place stands due to wind because EVERY possible entry ANY PLACE on our land will be a bad wind and or a deer bumping nightmare. By making many many locations I can try to beat them in timing. This said I can't even travel down my drive to get to lands across the street without bumping deer and Turkey. Then walking down the road to lower sections I bump the deer that bed just over the culvert ditches all the way down the hill. Drives me wild every season. Timing and wind help depending on weapon. That said hill country so winds are a swirling mess.. Bow is a close distance,crossbow just a little longer, shotgun up to hundred yrds and rifle ,well I really don't have shooting over 150 due to terrain. Food plots mast trees , in an ag filled area with massive pressure on all sides,nothing will ever be a given with either. I'd probably have better results on public..lol
This spot where I put the box blind is part of a 10 year old clear cut so there’s only 1 other tree to get a stand in. The box is in a position where I can hunt a lot of different wind direction’s without getting winded by deer. The hardest part about hunting my land is that the deer can come from any direction depending on where they end up during the day. I do put out about 8-10 other portable stands all over the property so I have a lot of options during the season.
I'm now having trouble with bean plans...my WR/ clover plot is looking so GREAT right now. The chopping and dragging of the mature WR seeds has worked so well two years in a row. The clover has self see seeded, dang thick. I May leave part of that plot for the spring summer and then kill down and plant turnips for. The late summer fall/winter. Deer bedded in that plot all year last year. Messed with my movement. They won't bed in a mature turnip plot. I wouldn't need to centralize the turnips with a few years of nitrogen from clovers.
Went back up to the land and got the box blind anchored down and trimmed a few shooting lanes for it. Also fertilized the clover plots and sprayed a bunch of thistles that seem to like it in the plot too, I have a feeling that it may turn into a battle keeping the under control....
We put a couple acres of a mix of millet, sorghum, and sunflower for a dove plot on my buddies place yesterday. I have a clover plot for deer there and did brassicas on a small spot there last year. We tilled that spot and the soil looked amazing. I'll throw another sweet feast mix of brassicas in around August again. For the dove mix we fertilized all of the plot at the same time and got a good light soaking rain last night. Should be awesome. Sent from my SM-G960U using Bowhunting.com Forums mobile app

It will be a while before I can do anything. Standing water 6 " deep in some plots...snowed a little this a.m.

I am going to wait till later throw in some winter oats and rape to go with the clover. I will not be hunting till the crops are out, it is pointless where I hunt.
I got one of my plots done, after plowing, disking, dragging and picking a ton on rocks it should be great. I seeded with oats and some left over seed as a cover crop for clover. Need some rain now, they are saying tomorrow and the next day that we should get some.
Mowed my clover plots and got my screening planted. I added a little clover to some of the bare spots round the edges as well. Our farm is getting 30+ acres of soybeans planted so there’s no real need to compete with that. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Kinda bummed. Frost seeded clover was coming up nicely. No rain and super dry now. Appears to all be done for.
