And for the record, I didn't know my dad was a vet until I was a freshman in high school. My principal, a pickle smoocher my dad grew up with asked why my dad never came to the veterans day assembly. I know it was different for those guys coming home and when we finally had the conversation it kinda rocked me to the core. Both he and my uncle never talked about it until 1989. Ive only seen my dad in uniform once for a funeral of one of his friends and let me tell ya, the guy in that uniform was a different fella.
