She was reported to be a "long term" employee, wonder what that means? They did the whole "defund the police" thing, so you have to wonder how many veteran officers they lost and how much actual street time the officer really had. Did she have some type of office job but then got moved to patrol once they lost some other officers? Did she used to work patrol but had been in an office role for quite a while before returning? Whatever the case may be, when emotions were high she mistakenly drew her service weapon instead of her taser and never noticed until it went bang. I feel for her. Yet another idiot resists the police rather than complying and fighting it in court, and now one person's life is over and the other's is ruined forever. What a great decision it is to resist the police.
Another sign that these mostly peaceful protesters don't think things thru. If you are going to loot and plunder and get charged with a felony, do not loot a $ store, no matter how much you like those frozen burritos they have.
Unfortunately she made a terrible mistake that simply can't happen, no matter who the person was at the other end of the gun. I can't imagine being in that situation. I've seen people comparing it to a doctor injecting you with fentanyl instead of a flu shot yadda yadda... Just a terrible situation.
I will say this if you have a warrant for your arrest and you resist arrest your chances of getting killed go up substantially. You don't think a cop approaching a person that the cops knows has a warrant for their arrest is going to put the cop on edge? When the perp then makes a sudden movement into a vehicle I could see where a cop might act extremely fast in that situation.
If you have a warrant for your arrest because you didn't show up to court for illegally being in possession of a firearm. Your chances of being shot while resisting arrest go through the roof... Also the cop was the former head of the police union... I would bet that she was up to date on her training. The police were laterally enforcing a gun law.
The young man had a warrant for his arrest because he did not appear in court for fleeing police and having a handgun illegally, combined with the fact that the lad was talking on the phone when the cop approached the car. Anybody surprised that all the officers would be on high alert?
No surprise that she was on high alert. But does that give the cop the right away to shoot him because she thought she had her taser not firearm? Of course none of it should have happened because he should have just obeyed orders and not resist/flee.
If we are using the logic that many politicians are pushing like POC are incapable of obtaining ID's then I would say yes I'm shocked. However, we know that this is blatantly false, taking responsibility for actions is what is lacking. The officer will need to take responsibility for her actions and will likely be judged by a jury of her peers. I also hope she sues the city of Brooklyn Park for 27 million dollars for firing the city manager for standing up for her due process.
Last night on the channel 9 news they pretty much showed the protest and the dispersal live on TV, I watched a little until I was sick of listening to the reporters blather on.
I was down around the capital today if you saw the number of troopers and national guardsmen outside in this crappy weather instead of home with there families it would really piss you off!!
