Thought I'd mix it up for this mornings hike. Just took a single 12# dumbbell...not a lot of weight, and I intentionally wanted asymmetry. Many various lifts, but it was interesting, just holding/gripping it while walking.... Nothing crazy, just a 10mile hike with a dumbbell... Which, seems kinda crazy.
Been really working on my hip and lower back flexibility. Exercises and stretches. I am going to get a handle on this pain and tightness before I wake up at age 55 and I am locked up and in bad pain. Split squats are helping and they really showed me how tight my hips were these days.
Just finished Month 3 of our weight loss challenge. I'm down 25 lbs since we started and feeling great. This is the longest I've gone on a "keto-ish" diet and I'll likely continue for the foreseeable future. I'd like to drop another 15 lbs and I know that's not going to happen in the next month. Currently sitting at 198 today and I'd like to be 185 by the time we head to Vegas in July. Not being the fattest white guy at the pool is always a bonus. I switched up my workouts to incorporate a lot more core/ab exercises and it's amazing how a stronger core has increased my strength and endurance on the rest of my lifts. I'm currently lifting 3-4 days as week and doing HIIT cardio 2-3 days.
How do you have jet lag when you are in the same time zone? I think that's just called "being old" (I say that with the full admittance that I can't currently run 5 miles. So there's that.)
My youngest wanted to do a conditioning workout today at high noon, on a black track. And dad told her he would do everything she did. Mistake.
Yesterday I did 2.3 miles in 60 minutes with a 35lb pack at a 20% incline. Then I coached my youngest's tee ball practice after work. Daily total of 19164 steps covering 6.2 miles during the day. Today was an upper body lift followed by an easy 20 minute walk on the treadmill. Tonight I coach baseball practice for my older boys. I imagine the step count will be something similar by the time I get to bed tonight.
Good stuff guys. I hear you on that hip tightness. I've been working on my flexibility, its getting better but its something I regret not staying on top of! Good training day on Monday, 6 mile run, full body lifting at the gym, and slow roll some drills, Tuesday 45 min on the bike before 24 hour call for recovery day. Today, full body accessory muscle lifts low weight, 2 mile run, and will drill for an hour tonight. Diet has been on point between social engagements.
What are you "drilling" West? Submission wrestling or something like that? You are in great shape man!
That's fantastic. Started in 1999 and fell in love with it. Had some fun times for the years I trained. Wish I had stuck with it for more than 5 to 6 years but my family called. Your conditioning will help you a lot.
That’s awesome, 6 years is a good ways down the rabbit hole. I hear you on the family stuff. There’s nothing more important. That being said I’m in a fortunate place where I have the free time to exercise and get roughed up by guys in their twenty’s for fun.
Me too. I was probably 10 when I started but didn’t stick with it long. You can always go back. Your not dead yet!
