I enjoy and look forward to Spring turkey season every year. Our opener is April 15th. I usually take my back up bow to use, gives me a reason to shoot it and confirm all is okay and it's still in tune.
Oklahoma’s season runs from April 6th to May 6th. Its been awhile since I've shot a bird but I do enjoy calling for friends and newcomers. Grew up hunting Eastern's and am now chase these Rio's, love it. Ive had this wing bone call for about 12 years now, gets them toms all hot and bothered.
Youth opener was the weekend and the weather was pretty dismal by us. Rainy on Saturday morning and 35 degrees with 20-30 mph winds yesterday. We caught a glimpse of one bird and that was it. Rough weekend to get things started! The kids get one more crack at it this weekend and the weather is looking a whole lot better. Hoping the birds cooperate this time around. If not, I'm going to give up some of my season to try and get my son on a bird - provided we can get some OTC tags for him. Turkey hunting can be awful frustrating if you don't hit the timing just right. On these small pieces of private ground we have the birds are either there, or they aren't. And when they aren't, it can make for some loooooooong sits.
