I've decided to purchase a bow press and start acquiring the equipment I need to do most bow related tech myself. Closest shop is 35 minutes away and typically busy. Other than the press, what equipment is necessary to start this process? Cutting arrows as well. I know I can youtube this, but wanted to hear from some experienced folks first. Thanks.
I just went through this identical thing... except I opted not to get an arrow saw. There are multiple online retailers to order from that cut them for you, so I did not see a reason to invest in this area. I got myself the following: EZ Green press OMP Versa Cradle vise Chrono (which doubles as paper holder) Serving jig Leveling combo set Square that clips on string D-loop pliers Arrow spinner Arrow squaring tool various materials.... D-loop material, BCY 3D, center serving (which goes in the jig) I think the above gets you 99% of the way... but I may have missed something. :-) Fletching is a whole different thing. One could go in many different directions, including overboard, in that category.
Good catch, I knew I'd forget something. I got the one on Amazon from "Archery Shooter Systems" and it does work, but the ones you posted look nicer!
even though you may use an item once/twice a year, so to speak, it is always nice to have it... no shop needed for me, unless warranty or buying a bow . ...
Is there a bit of a learning curve, or necessary skill involved to do a lot of the common stuff or is it fairly self explanatory once you do them a couple times? I fear screwing up my bow if I mess up.
there are some things Youtube is good for .... search a subject and watch various vids ... with the tuning process, the press is a huge help ... of course needed for string cable changes, some vids out there showing cam timing/sync .... AMO Draw Length vs actual draw length ... arrow building/fletching .... btw, I use a Bike stand for my bow vise and to set the 2nd and 3rd axis on the sight, then double check at full draw on a door jam that is straight up/down (checked with a long level).....
FYI .... seems the LCA ez green presses are a 4-6 week lead time everywhere I looked. I’m two weeks in to the lead time on mine
Exactly why I want to become self sufficient. Everything from archery to guns/ammo are in high demand.
Following this. Planning to do the same. Hate going to shops, waiting around etc. I don’t have one close to me either
