Any of you KY boys ever hunt this ? Any info on deer population, skeeter population, hunter pressure, lay of the land etc.

    Thanks in advance.

Haven't hunted them in Kentucky but have in Missouri. Skeeters in full effect. However, it was my experience that when the bachelor groups starting breaking up the tended to head for the hills. Even saw a group swim across the Missouri River to the high hilly side and get out of the bottoms all together. Which I think was duel purpose, better cover and less duck hunters. Frog gigging in July and August was the best time spent in the sloughs.

I hunt sloughs in Arkansas. I have never hunted Kentucky. Thermacell and Permethrin are required at all times until temps are consistently below 50. Deer will hide out on the subtle high points in the sloughs. Six inches of elevation will be the difference between a bedding spot or travel corridor and being under water. As @Okiebob said, if there is higher ground close, the deer will move there out of the sloughs once duck season starts. Wear snake boots if you are going deep into the sloughs, they can be Cottonmouth havens.

Sloughs are money on the Carolina coastal plain public land for pigs and bucks alike.

Me and my buddy hunted the sloughs last year, headed back at the end of next month. Hoping for better weather this year.
