*reserved* Saving a space in this thread, I'm going to get back out 100% certain of it. Only have 5(maybe 6) days to get out but I'll get out again over the next two weekends, one day or three days gonna make it happen.
I just missed a nice 8 point. He was at 35 yards. My arrow clipped a limb and deflected down and left. Missed him by about 10 feet.
That buck had me tied up in knots. I first spotted him about 100 yards out heading my way. He crossed the creek at 45 yards but I had no shot. He did get closer but the cover was thick and I couldn’t range him again because the sun was right behind him and the glare kept me from seeing him. He kept on walking away and a couple of minutes later I thought he had moved on. About 5 minutes later I heard a commotion the direction he had gone. He was coming back but he was on alert now. I have no idea what spooked him over there but I did hear a deer blow that general direction. He trotted into the Ozonics scent stream and stopped at 35 yards broadside. I did rush to make the shot and didn’t notice the limb in the way until the arrow hit it. Oh well.
I’m set up in a different spot. We found a green field in the woods so I’m 33 feet up a pine on the north edge. This is pretty much an observation sit to see where the deer enter the field at. If it happens to be in bow range so be it. I almost didn’t go out this afternoon because of what’s going on in DC but there’s nothing I can do from the front of the club house TV.
Had 10 does filter into the green field about 45 minutes before dark. Seven came from the south and three came from the east. They never got closer than 45 yards. I almost took a 45 yard two times but I decided it was too risky. Maybe next time they’ll get closer.
Fun hunt! Instead of waiting for them to get closer, anyway for you to get closer on the next hunt? Sent from my SM-G900V using Tapatalk
Oh yeah, that can happen. Like I said, this was an observation sit. If the wind gets right and I go back I WILL kill a doe there now that I’ve seen what they’re doing. Unless @cantexian or @USAF Bowhunter want to come and give them a try.
Move to where the 3 came out, because you know only 3 will come from where the seven came out and 7 will come from where you were sitting tonight. It'll be the least disappointing That's how my luck goes anyway
Good luck out there everyone who’s still trying!!! I’ll be out on Saturday down in MD, I’m currently getting a bunch of cell cam pics of does coming through in daylight! Hoping to get a shot at one. Dad got really lucky yesterday in Pa with the flintlock and on his walk back to the truck 3 does walked infront of him at 20 yards, he shot one and she dropped in her tracks... 50 yards from the parking lot and about 10 yards off the trail!
Well didn’t go out this morning because I had to get my truck inspected at 9am. My 2 trail cams are blowing up today by my stand... 2 bucks that both look like shooters. Feels real bad Sent from my iPhone using Bowhunting.com Forums
