Well in the shuffle, I lost my release. I think I'm taking this action as a sign to change up styles. Please post what you like/why/ and link to purchase . Thanks guys.
I've used a couple of the carter releases, really like those, but haven't bought one yet.... maybe next year. Advantage being that I can shoot my back tension all year, and the Just-b-cuz has the same impact point for hunting. Then again... could just use my back tension for hunting again, I did shoot a turkey with it
I am not an archery coach or anything. I use a wrist release, single hook style. String releases clean. I have used back tension and thumb releases, but this one is simple and I can let my arrow fly when I choose to. This model, you can adjust your trigger pressure. https://www.cabelas.com/shop/en/tru...5UCuN2i0uaYVAVcGIwUaAkkeEALw_wcB&gclsrc=aw.ds
I looked at the Just b cuz and it's interesting. I've never shot that style. Going to head to the shop and try a few
It sounds like you aren't talking about a wrist style release, but I will say I absolutely love my current one. It is a Tru-fire that is adjustable for length, trigger weight, and folds back so it isn't in the way of your hand when pulling arrows, using calls, rattling, etc. The only thing I disliked was that the arm would slide around on the ring it's attached to so it can be off to the side of your hand when you want it. I added small zip ties to keep it from swiveling and that cured that problem. Folded back it's out of my way, fold it forward and it's in perfect position for me to get it clipped to the string. When it's folded back I can pop it back into shooting position by just sticking the caliper head against my side and applying forward pressure. Plus, the red on it matches the red on my Carbon Knight. Tru-Fire Max Edge Buckle Black Foldback® | Tru-Fire Release (feradyne.com)
Thanks Mod I actually use wrist style and Tru-Fire in fact now. I'm going to use everyone input to help decide if I'll be staying with that style
Quick tip. Your release is either on your wrist, or buckled to the handle of your bow. You will never forget it or lose it this way. I learned the hard way.
I've been shooting a Nock2It thumb release as I was punching the trigger on my trigger / strap release. I really like it for shooting, but it would be easy to lose in the woods...
Scott Mongoose. Been shooting this one for 25+ years. Have a backup that I switch around every once in a while. Get the Mongoose not the Little Goose.
Got nothing for ya fix. My release is a wrist rope release from 1989. Yup. 1989. NEVER gonna switch to anything else.
No decisions yet, hitting the shop after xmas when he opens again. I have shot wrist strap for so long I don't know if I'll be able to change. Going to be interesting
You're in the same camp I am. Except for fingers when I shot instinctively when younger, I've never shot anything other than a wrist strap. I'm pretty curious about trying a hand held thumb trigger release, but know it'll be quite a learning curve for a while before it becomes a thoughtless process. Plus it will likely change my anchor and require a peep adjustment.
I wasn't sure I would like a thumb release, so I ordered a fairly cheap one to try out. I figured I've wasted way more than $59 on stupid stuff before, it wouldn't hurt to spend that on something I might like. I was very pleased! Within a couple days of getting used to it, my groups tightened up. Was about 2.5" at 30 yards and went to about 2" groups. I used that one for about 4 years before upgrading to the Scott Sigma I use now
