Three days until the wife leaves town...washing the hunting clothes tonight and trying to hide my excitement of hunting Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday while she is gone.
I’m back! Good trip minus all the dang people. Had a busy few days at work but things are going back to normal. 50/50 chance I’ll sneak out in the morning, going to go light with a bow and a stool. North wind and light rain will help make me super sneaky. I have no plan to climb a tree, going to get under the cedar for first light movement and come up with a plan from there. Hopefully I roll out of bed in time, let’s hunt some loins!
I never made it out to the woods, I have caught some bug, did not feel well over the weekend. Have some symptoms of the big bad rona, but I never lost smell/taste. It seems more like a head cold than anything, but I feel like I'm on the backside of it. I should be getting out this week with this cold snap coming.
I've been taking some down time. I may hunt a couple more times here at my home place before the first of the year, but after the first of the year I plan to tow my travel trailer to Wattensaw WMA which is about 45 minutes east of Little Rock, AR and park it at our hunting cabin for a while. I'll be hunting there off an on until the end of February or the White River floods and closes the WMA. That happens quite often around February.
Still haven't gotten word I can get back on our main farm.....landowner is not keeping his word and I fear this is the beginning of a strained odd relationship moving forward.... ...I did find out I have access to a riverbottom piece back again, but no stand is hung and presently don't have any to move there....ground hunting is tough without it being winter and bare.
Need me to loan you a climber? I wish you guys didn’t live so far away. You could fill a doe tag here.
I do have an old treelounge climber...thing is WAY too noisy. No worries, I still place my odds at a late season anterless decently high. Just need to either finally target does on my place (presently letting pops try to get a buck) OR very late season chance at the farm we should hear from any minute...
I've seen a Tree Lounge in action one time and that one time was enough to convince me that I'd never use one. I still remember my buddy and I walking in together. He had his Tree Lounge and I had my Viper. I got all set up, settled and quiet and then I listened to the clank - bang - clank coming from his direction for minutes as he set up. It was hilarious. We didn't see any deer, of course.
Archery opens back up a week from today and runs until Jan 10th. I moved a camera that is getting a lot of does moving every morning and evening. I will need to find the bucks again. They have bunched back up for the winter.
Don't get me wrong the newer model I loved, ONCE set up....so much I left it at base of the tree. THING IS COMFY...but yea.....NOT a bowhunters friend and not a mobile set up.
I can assure you the one my buddy had wasn't a newer model. I think I was hunting with him in 2008 when he used it, and it looked old then.
I got a handful of ducks yesterday but when I was picking up decoys I caught a stick in the boot of my waders ripped a hole in them. Thank goodness I was just about done picking up. I had one cold foot coming home. I am glad most of it was on ice thick enough to walk on.
Closing up shop and jumping in the truck to go scout. Had a buddy call and said he had been seeing a lot of deer on one of my farms. Going to see if anything interesting. Maybe I can find a good one to hunt starting Monday.
