I'm on a few days break.
Had a great season so far. Best "rut" hunt in years.
Just need the right one to step out so I can miss it:lol:

Bucks this is the worst rut year I've seen in a long time. Probably my issue with my setups but I'm not seeing crap. I'm hoping some action starts back up around Thanksgiving bc they appear to be locked down.

Had time tonight for a 2 hour sit.
Was super fun and seen 3 good bucks but...., it sucked balls.
Went and sat in that in that old combine where I seen that giant 2 weeks ago.
3 big bucks and some does came out of the woods on the neighbors 3/8 mile to the north..
1 big one came to me but went into my woods way outta range.
I bailed out of the combine and snuck to a stand I had about 200 yards away only to find the last windstorm we had had blown a tree down on it.
Pissed, so I walked over about 50 yards and tucked into a red oak that had also tipped over.
Was nice and concealed but on the ground.
Started rattling and I could hear branches cracking but I'm deaf in my left ear and have terrible directional hearing. Could not pin point where it was coming from.
I "thought " is was to my left but he snuck in to my right.
He was only about 7 yards but I had to turn to shoot. I did all that but had to somewhat stand to shoot.
My legs were numb from kneeling and I could not do it.
He finally pegged me,blew and rocketed out.
For such an incredible year I've had, things just turn to crap so fast.
There was still a bit of light so once he left, I did a quick recon and found an incredible spot for a stand. Be good for morning sits only but I WILL be hanging one there!
VS, you got more balls than I do.
For what you go through to even SEE a deer is crazy!
Even though I'm spoiled rotten where I hunt and have some incredible properties with fair numbers of good bucks, its not a slam dunk.
If I was a better archer and felt comfortable shooting further, I believe I could kill a dandy every year but I tend to hunt thick, close n tight stuff.
Its a mental block thing from many years ago that I just can't break?
Shooting targets out to 40,50 yards is OK but for some reason, I want deer within 15 yards. Hard to explain?
I've shot over 50 bear with a bow and I'm not sure if any have been over 20 yards. ?
Anywhoo, good to see our team still trying. Still time to but up some points.

Mike, my honest opinion, I hear the term "rut is late/early" this year alot on various forums. I truly do not believe so.
Peak breeding"rut" happens same time EVERY year in your local.
Their can be influences that change what we "see" but I think year in/year out its stays constant.
Not gonna say what percentage but the HUGE majority of does in NW MN get breed from Nov 10_20th every year.
Young bucks chasing does does not mean nothing to me. They remind me of (me) when I was 20.
OK, nuff rambling, beer, supper n bed.

Friday was on the upper 60s and pretty much stopped all movement. Rained Saturday morning, but helped with the dry leaves. Today, it’s been raining since 0100 and not let up.
Going to be a wonderful day.

Got back from the cabin this evening.
Lots of deer moving but mostly right at first light/ last light.
Had 3 small bucks come by me last evening at 7 yards along with 11 does. Biggest was a 2 year old 8.
Big boys are holed up i think knowing there ain't no more puzzy for another 2 weeks.
    Same thing every year.

Headed out the door to see what’s left after the gun season.
Need to put a blind that my cousin was sitting in and take it to our other farm for a buddy that’s coming in from Wyoming.

Good luck this week fellas. I'm gonna hunt Thurs to Sat in hope for another crack at a buck. Taking the kayak on the lake a couple days to escape the gun pressure.
