My condolences to you and your family Carp. My apologies for not keeping up here, I always post in LFTS, but bypass the team; I'm usually not this spaced out. Back on topic, last night was close, but once again, I ran out of light. Had a doe or two get close, but he new spot I was in limited my shooting lane to the acorn tree...which I knew I should have set up closer to. Two small I have only taken one deer, but I have at least seen deer every hunt, which I count as a success. I keep telling myself to get aggressive, yet the weather is not cooperating and with fall baseball, my morning have been limited to one morning hunt. On the plus side: I'll be washing and packing from Illinois this evening, I got permission to park at a house that is about 200 yards from entering the very back of the public land I hunt. This is huge, the mile walk is been cut significantly, my plan is to be up there around 9am, plenty of time walk in quietly and setup for the next few days. Wife is supposed to visit her friend next weekend and taking my son with her, so I will get aggressive and get into that bedding thicket and see what I can drag out of there. Hopefully the weather cools over the next week. And that's the news.
Congrates. Went out last night & discovered a trail camera with cellular antenna that aint mine. Then I obsereved a white F150 driving through the picked beans, headed my way. We made eye contact & he made a U turn & left the area. This morning, I made a sign and held it up infront of his camera which advised he had until today to get the camera out or it would become evidence of tresspassing...headed out tomorrow after work to hunt and see if I have a new camera.
More patient then I, I'd have written on there the address to the local Police Station where he can admit to trespassing and sign a no trespass citation/warning (our prosecutor prefers first time offenses be warned first) and get his camera back OR thanks for the camera.
Well finally think I'm able to not cough too much and somewhat nostrils allow breath. Actually gonna hunt off ground tonight on a smaller piece of riverbottom property we have permission to hunt we haven't been to this year yet. I will shoot a big doe if presented chance. Gonna be running camera and not a main property so despite normally not shooting does this time of year I am gonna make an exception at this place.
Just got a text from one of my cell cams of what I believe to be my #1 buck feeding just now. I was already planning on hunting that area he is in tomorrow morning, hopefully he does not wonder to far. Sent from my Pixel 4 using Tapatalk
Well guys, day 12 seems to have been my turning point. I had a good day all day and could not be happier. Looks like I may be up to getting into the woods in a few days. Just in time for a good cold front. Those were 11 of the most horrible days of my life with some truly scary episodes. Stay away from Covid if you can! Congrats to the killers! I hope to add some points very soon. A couple of my buddies have told me to just get the deer shot and they will handle the rest. I hope to give them some work. Lol
Nothing seen tonight (skunked) The field to the north & east has standing corn I will not hunt that property again until the corn has been picked Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
So, I did a thing this evening. I didn't notice the broken off left side. He walked in in thick cover and I never even noticed. Still, he's down, skinned, quartered, on ice and already entered on the scorecard.
It will probably be Wednesday I will post up my buck with the score. Tomorrow afternoon thru Monday depending on weather I’m going to try for a doe. Sorry for taking so long. Things have not went as planned
Thanks. When you get yours added we should jump back up into 2nd place. Well, maybe not. I just saw that you said it might be Wednesday. Bucks are gonna be dropping all over the place.
For those of you who don't follow the LFTS thread, I got a call from my wife just as we started the track on that buck. She volunteers for maintenance work on the Ozark Trail. She was an hour and a half from home and she hit a deer in her Ford Focus. She's okay, but she was freaking out. As it turns out, the car could still be driven so she limped along and made it home safely. Good thing too because we were a long way from camp and camp is two hours from where she was. If the car hadn't been able to be driven I'd have left that buck lying in the woods without a second thought.
