Debating on going out in the morning. Still supposed to be warm. might just rest up before the real show starts next week.
The heat plays a significant roll in deer movement. Minus opening day almost 3 weeks ago, the weather has been hot. Rough sledding so far. Im working on my gear tonight and drinking a beer or two in the garage while I tinker. 60 degrees and no wind again in the morning. Nope.
I hear that! I'm lucky to see maybe 3 deer in a day, and that includes during the rut. When I went to Ohio a while back, I was seeing 10-20 deer daily! I didn't know how to act!!
I see maybe 3 a year! When I went to Illinois for the first time, I saw more bucks from the stand in the first 2 hours than 15 plus years of hunting where I hunt now!
Finally figured out my weekend. 1. Told work to suck it 2. Will be live from the duck blind Saturday morning then football playoff game in evening. 3. Sunday morning I’ll be out to put an arrow through a very large whitetail. 4. Pickup kids Sunday afternoon cause my wino wife will be at winery with her wino friends.
Well I went on a mobile mission tonight with a buddy, first time it’s actually been a success! Finally got back into an area a forum member and I both selected as a good area. Got within 30 yards of the purple dot and bumped a very large deer that was by itself, found some decent sign all throughout this piece! Found one other treestand but it’s a ways off from where I want to set up Going to need to get back in there soon, have a decent tree picked out but I’m gonna need to trim a trail in, it would be impossible to get in and out of there undetected some of the thickest crap I’ve been in!
Got trapped in the stand tonight. Got out without any blowing. For a hot evening there was good sign of bucks wondering around.
I didn't see a thing until almost last light. I was packing my gear up when I heard something. I got my binoculars back out and here comes a deer heading north straight to me. It turns and heads west and then does start pouring out of the cut-over to my east and all headed west. I stood there for 30 minutes while they walked away, but I have to go west to get out of there, so I climbed down as quietly as I could. If I've gotta bump deer I'd rather do it from the ground than have them see me up in the tree. They must have moved on over the ridge because I didn't hear one deer take off or blow while I was sneaking out. Then again, they could have been watching from 50 yards away saying to each other "There's that a-hole. Don't worry about it. He said he was only gonna shoot one of the guys."
