I've got good moon this weekend. Mostly waning, dark moon with overhead/underfoot around first and last light. Weather is warmer than I'd like, but still early season so I don't think it will effect movement much.
work got in the way of my WI trip, so I may just be buying an IL license for the first time ever. There is one section of PL near me that I have almost hunted several times but just never pulled the trigger. Might try to do a THP style ghillie suit spot and stalk as it's mostly flat CRP type stuff with some groves and small creek bottoms.
How ironic it would be if I spank a biggun on a first time hunt in a state I've lived in for 15 years and never hunted. Gonna be hot though. 78 and 75 Sat/Sun.
That's how it can go a lot of times. I always see good habitat while driving to my same old spots and say to myself I need to hunt that one day.
I am hunting Friday evening through all Monday: My weather forecast calls for a 86 degree high on Sunday...which is at least 10 degrees higher than normal. Would anyone skip that evening hunt, in order to scout for fresh sign, or am I over thinking it? Moon is on point all weekend.
Can't kill them if you aren't sitting and waiting. Id just hunt over a water source. We have been in a drought here for months and Saturday its going to be hot here. Ill be sitting 20 yds from the only water for some distance.
I had 2 does come in at about 10 this morning. I'm hunting a bench on a fairly steep hill, they came down the hill onto the bench. Walked directly towards me, and as she got about 10 yards in front she looked up and pegged me. I never had a shot. I was trying to be patient and still, because they are about at my eye level as they approach down the hill. In hindsight I could have drawn back and waited, but that's a risk because who knows how long I'd be holding. I've still got tonight, Sunday and Monday. Getting back after it.
Concluded my first hunts of season. Weather was warm, above average. Today had 30 mph wind gusts. Overall not great conditions. Pulled my cards, great activity, few nice bucks, but mostly nocturnal activity this early. Hoping to get back after it for some pre-rut/rut.
Hey guys, hope everyone is doing well. We got a couple really good weather days coming up in Minnesota, tomorrow night will be post cold front (30 overnight) with a high pressure system coming in tomorrow through Friday, snow on Saturday, 23 overnight low Saturday night into Sunday morning and Sunday night high pressure again. I'm excited to get out!
if I get done with work early enough tomorrow I may drive an hour and half away and hit a small public parcel in MI that I usually only hunt late season in the evenings. Big high pressure cold front moving in and moon is good. Doe patrol or anything decent surprises me I will let one fly. I'd like to fill the freezer before Oct 28 rutcation starts.
First sit, not a sight. Cold front was good, but the 13-14 MPH winds kept them hunkered down. Skunked! Sent from my iPad using Bowhunting.com Forums
Failed to make it to the woods that week, purchasing home took precedent. Sent from my iPad using Bowhunting.com Forums
That's no excuse, everyone knows you need a new deer on the wall before you buy the actual wall!! Lol.
I'm in today. Been raining for 24hrs. Will do four sits this weekend. Looking for the 10pt, turkeys or a bear. Good luck this weekend.
First bow kill of my life. 20 yards quartering away, mid height on the body, front third. Shot out of a ground blind, central MN, dusting of snow on the ground and light flurries coming down. I’ll type up the weekend’s story tomorrow and submit to the scorecard. Had one of the big bucks hang out for over an hour after I shot this doe. Never got closer than 45 yards but it was sure exciting. We ended up in a grunting match, (he was pissed) he started snort wheezing and I tried snort wheezing back but after three exchanges he didn’t like my snort wheezing and headed out of the area.
Well here is the current pick. Except it is not the most current, BECAUSE THE NEIGHBOR SHOT HIM! Hehehehe! That’s how it goes. Off to the next one we can find. Sent from my iPhone using Bowhunting.com Forums
